If you could create a Fallout Vault experiment, what would you do?

Fill a vault with 500 hardened, psychotic career criminals and 500 Dirty Harry style cops. Dress the crooks in red and the cops in blue so they can differentiate on sight and fill the armories with only medieval weaponry and armor. Fill the food and water with aggression enhancing drugs. Then watch the chaos unfold.
Alternatively, fill a vault with 500 scientists and pretentious atheist liberals, and 500 fundamentalist christian republicans. Give shotguns to all the fundamentalists. The catch is that only the scientists can use the equipment. What will happen?

In my vault experiment I would get lots of monkeys and turn them into super soldiers equipped with power Armour. also I would inject hem with my special dna mutating serum to give them super powers like someone from x- men . then I would put them against Weapon XI.

I would lock everyone up, and then kill one person. Make it look like murder, and then watch them try to figure out who it was. Then systematically kill everyone off, leaving two people. Then watch what happens

OT: I would provide no amusement and an abundance of performance inhancing drugs, ranging from caffien to harder stuff. All work and no play make jack a dull boy, however all work and no relaxation makes jack excellent to watch!

Actually, Oblivion stole that idea from a story called "And then there were none" (also made into a movie). But most people around here would only know of it through the DBH quest that you speak of.

I'd lock a group of people in a vault with very little food and propaganda about how cannibalism is good literally covering the walls and study how long it takes before they start snacking on each other.

Either that or...

Get a large group of people, at least 20 from every religious group possible, and study how long it takes before they band together and start embarking on crusades against the others. Then the last group alive gets to go to a real vault.

Me? I'd have a seemingly normal vault, however have a few hundred brains in a hidden cryogenic area, and periodically replace a random person's brain with another, before switching it back a few months later. See what happens to the sanity of the place.


Otherwise, I'd simply erase people's minds and replace them with the personalities/minds of people from Victorian times. See how they adjust.

I'd make an experiment to try to force evolution, by having two Vaults; one where it's rather cold and one where it's rather warm. I would then make it so that the population would breed faster, maybe by releasing an aphrodysiac in the venting system. As the years go by, the temperature in the Vaults would slowly lower or rise, respectively, forcing the Vaults' residents to continue to adapt to increasingly different enviroments.
Edit: Oh, and no weapons in either Vault.

Wait a number of hundred years, see how the populations from either Vault differs from eachother, and if they have adapted according to our perception of how evolution works.
Have they evolved to new species, or can they still mate with "standard" humans?
Can they mate with eachother?
Who would survive the best in a standard Vault's enviroment? (as in that of one of the control Vaults)
Who would survive best in the other's Vault?
Who would survive the best in the Wasteland?
And finally, who would win in a fight?

Edit: BTW, the Vaults were never made to save people, they were made to perform experiments on humans. The only ones who are even close to being what Vault-Tec advertised them as are the control Vaults, where the population would serve as a point of reference for the results of the other Vaults.

Evolution would only work with competitive breading the temperature difference would have to kill off a percentage of each generation. Also they would end up so inbred though that would only serve to enhance the effects of evolution. If I am ever a position to create vault experiment I would defiantly employ your ideas.

That would be awesome. I can picture that happening in a Fallout game; you're exploring the wilderness then BAM! a Sabertooth that has skin like a Yao Guai pounces on you. They could be exclusive to that area, and good luck if you want to actually get past the ones outside and go into the Vault...

My vault would be totally normal, except I would tell the people there is highly valueable treasure hidden somewhere in the vault. Initially they'd all think logically; why would they need treasure when it's the end of the world. Then if I keep increasing it's value, eventually they'd all go nuts and destroy the place and themselves trying to find it!
