If you mean it was possible to provide a cure for every disease in the world, yeah. As for over-population, people will always find ways to destroy themselves and each other, it's human nature after all, or at least what my naive observations have given me.

I guess the guys going with "No,it's against natural selection" and "Bad luck for the vitims, overpopulation" were never life-threatening sick. Saying such things while you are sitting in your comfortable room and are healthy is incredibly arrogant.

Get cancer and then tell me its ok that you die because it happens according to natural selection. Ignorant kids...

Everybody deserves to live. Overpopulation, famines etc, are a lame excuse. With a change of life styles this wouldn't be a problem(even today we're producing enough food to ensure the wellbeing of all humans,it's just not equally distributed.) Western societies dump as much food (like bread that's older than one day) as a good part of the thirld world needs...

And birth rates lower when the standard of living rises. Look at first and second world countries. In Japan and parts of western europe some analysts even fear that the population of these countries will shrinkin the next years from low birth rates. Give humans education, jobs and chances and you don't have to fear overpopulation!
My Grandmother died of cancer, my aunt and uncle both had it and survived, although it would seemingly appear to have reemerged in my uncle once again. That said, I still would not necessarily allow the world to know if there was an effective cure to every disease. You have to take into consideration the thousands upon thousands of jobs that would be lost; especially in this struggling economic time, we as a society cannot afford to be completely healthy. If there were cures made for cancer, AIDs and etc then you would witness pain in terms of job stability akin to the automobile industry, as the research labs would cease existence.

As for everyone deserving to life, I would argue that theory because it is my opinion a vast amount deserve nothing. Those who sit at home collecting welfare when they are as capable of work as any one else, yet would rather be lazy. They are one such example.

I'd be fine with it as long as the stipulation is that a woman is only allowed 2 children. I say woman in case a couple divorces, etc. Two births, one to replace each parent.

Truthfully, it makes me ill when I hear about people that have entire litters of children. Three is the absolute LIMIT I can rationally understand. Seriously, I know a guy that comes from a family of FOURTEEN kids. FOURTEEN fucking children. The kicker? They were on food stamps and government assistance when they were young. What is wrong with that picture?

Yes. Yes I would.

Any costs of such a move are negligible next to living free of illness.

Over population is a social problem, nothing more or less and to try and force an external control on it like disease is both monstrous and misses the point entirely.
You heartless bastards, why can't you be more like DoctorNick? Lol.
But yeah, one child policy. And im sure a few million dollars in research could make a non-removing condom. kthx.

If I've learned one thing from this thread it's that things like this are exactly why no one person or small group should ever be given absolute power over everyone else.

'Benevolent dictator' my ass... <_<

curing them all is a nice thought to entertain but if that actually did happen the population would explode, we would overload the earth and eventually screw ourselves over and we'll crash into the sun or something, i wouldnt cure them.

Kill off many industries, overpopulation, crash the world economy (worse than now, I think...)
But I would give it to the world, no matter the cost
The world economy would benefit massively. Think about all the manual making of things like shirts. Obviously, that sector is just gone now. But we don't need it. If this magical cure can cure everything, then all of the money that used to be in pharma and such can just go to other things, and all of those people who are no longer sick will be available for employment, whereas before they might be on their death bed. I find this to be only a good thing.

Except for possibly overpopulation.
