I think kids going off and being pokemon trainers in their universe is like a rite of passage into adulthood, there is no other explanation as to why they would allow their kids to do this, how many times has Ash died? I'm not sure, I've only seen him die once I'm sure he's done it more. The fact that no one thought "My kid could and probably will get himself killed out there." seems to be about as accepted as going to war. This is why I chose Digimon, you are held responsible for your actions, your parents actually care what happens to you, but realize you have a weapon a power that is needed in the generally desperate times that are wrapped around these creatures, the world is realistic enough on your journeys you make friends and they have a tendency to die with an anomalous frequency, as you continue on you gain more skill and power until you make an epitomiphic breakthrough in you rparticular bland of screw you and you gain the ability to combine with your digimon and make him badassed. With the other levels of forms that you have available it's actually kind of easy to survive being attacked by because they are always freaking huge and are horrible shots, it's this last form which shrinks back down, which generally speaking sucks for your because now they are stupifyingly powerful and can actually hit a human sized target. That is why it's good to get into the digimon and using it like a mech.
