Here's a fun way of wasting your time (or lulling yourself to sleep, try it out in your head the next time you're going to bed): imagine you could only play one game for each letter of the alphabet for the rest of your days (or that you're choosing your own personal best games for every letter of the alphabet, whatever works for you). No ties.
The idea came to me when I realized Okami is probably the best O) game I ever played, and wouldn't mind if it were the one and only I can play for the rest of my life. I'm starting off with that and filling up my list as I manage think of others. Take your time and fill as many as you like in your list.
Caveat 1 - Singular games only, no series. It's either Silent Hill 2 or Silent Hill 3. You can't have every Silent Hill game. EDIT: However, collections are valid. So you could nominate something like "The Silent Hill HD Collection" or "God of War Saga".
Caveat 2 - You can skip "The" in a title, which is a pretty standard practice in alphabetization (i.e. "Evil Within, The").
Caveat 3 - Ambivalent on subtitles. "Yoshi's Island" is technically called "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island", so it's an S) game, not a Y) game. But it's up to you. You don't have to observe the technicism if the game is colloquially best known for its subtitle.
Caveat 4 - You can cheat by using a game's original Japanese title, so that Resident Evil becomes Biohazard and so on.
Caveat 5 - You're welcome to add titles that kick off with numbers (one per number) or weird punctuation, like the .hack games.
