Earlier today I started playing Dragon's Dogma for the first time. At the end of the first mission you have to fight a Chimera. This got me wondering; if I had the choice, what mythological or fantasy creature would I be?

Yep a griffin. Just look at that majestic being. I could soar through the sky and nobody could touch me. I'd totally destroy any dragon that tried to attack me ;)

So Escapists, what would you choose?

Dragon. Has to be, really. I've always loved that despite being "monsters" they're really intelligent and that, while undeniably dangerous, they don't necessarily have to be evil. I particularly like how they're portrayed in Wow.

I love the idea of a hidden society existing right there under our noses but being inaccessible to humans. Plus I'm obsessed with the sea and sealife. Especially whales. And if I was a mermaid I could chill with whales all the time XD I'd like them to be a bit... fiercer, I guess, than the common princess-with-a-fishtail portrayal though. I just feel you'd have to be pretty tough to survive in the ocean.

EDIT:

For some reason my first though went right to a Dullahan.Thoguh that may have to due to my love of Celty from Durarara!! However riding through the night, feared by people and getting to be a sort of grim reaper sounds pretty ok. Pity gold scares me half to death.

Can I transform into a shapeshifter? Because then I wouldn't really have to choose. :3

Dragon. If any of you didn't say dragon, you are wrong. 5 digit lifespan, flight, high intelligence, made of pure awesome. Yeah, Dragons win.

Only downside I can think of is that a dragon may struggle with doors and buildings and stuff like that.

I see a trend emerging in this thread... and I'm going to do absolutely nothing to change that!

Dragon it is (as if there were any doubt).

I'd be a Fae, not one of these modern 'fairies' but the Celtic mythological beings who flew without wings, could take on a variety of different forms (including ones indistinguishable from humans) and at best were mischievous, at worst downright malevolent. Plus I'd get a very long life and an alternate dimension to live in (I'd be in the 'Seelie court', for the record).

Everyone should say Ancalagon the Black! Even when he died he flattened a mountain range. I don't know how Eärendil killed him, but I'm calling hax.

It depends on which specific mythology for each creature, I guess. For example, dragons in some myths are for the most part are very smart/wise, long lived, noble etc., but in other myths are just very large flying, sometimes fire breathing, beasts. A lot of other mythological creatures have similar histories.

If it was the brainy variety, I'd probably pick dragon, as well.

Dragon, definitely a dragon. Huge, powerful, majestic, can fly, breathe fire (or equivalent). Have ancient and powerful magic. The raw primal power behind a dragon is more a force of nature than a beast.

Dragons are just awesome.

That's why you don't become one of the giant dragons. But otherwise I completely agree with you. Dragons are fucking awesome and anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they're missing.
