I'd quite like to see an RPG set in an alternative version of the wild west where dinosaur like monsters were present in the wilderness. Maybe there should be some sort of primitive robots too.

Have detailed skill trees with guns, close combat and maybe some sort of 'plasmid' type magic tree, bioshock style. Also it would be nice to see it have sizable plot decisions that have a significant impact on the story.


It would be nice to be able to have friends drop in like BL2 as well, but just act as support characters - partaking in the action and gameplay but still letting you go your own way down the dialogue trees.

Haha, yeah. I would just like to see some strong games using slightly unconventional settings. I thought wild west maybe because I have never seen it depicted outside of games attempting to clutch to some sort of realism - rather than just using it as a time period (see cowboys and aliens film)

You could have a series in different locations, wild west, jungle, Australian outback, Africa during the boer war...

the whole fact that the game is a dream is why our character can pause time when he opens menus, and come back from the dead using save-games, because you are a character in a dream, but you know it, thus you gain mastery of the dream.

I think that just effectively killed all interest I had in the series.

I know it's a childish idea, a game most would sneer at...but I'd LOVE to play a dragonfly-simulator.

Imagine, flying through tall grass, landing to rest, only to be forced off before the ants you didn't spot bit into you, hunting down smaller insects to feast upon while avoiding gigantic birds...maybe even try steal away some sugary treat from the humans relaxing on a beach...without being killed by that one mean kid. ;-)

Yeah, that would actually be fun in my mind, like a minature flight simulator (played one before with you as a model airplane in a house, but this would be more fun...and gorier once you feast on a fly. )

Why thank you, it's one of those ideas that has haunted me for years, I'm sure many have that one odd thought.

As to the OP...anything sparking your interest yet? If your idea might end up as a project for you, may I suggest keeping it simple, not too ambitious? Nothing's worse than sabotaging a course for yourself...

Essentially take any random JRPG, but run it backwards. Start at the end. With a really easy final boss fight since your character/party is highly skilled and extremely powerful. Then run it back from there. Get to know your characters and the world around you. How did things get to be the way they are. Why are you, as opposed to anyone else in the world, in the position you are in. Instead of meeting new party members along the way you'd be forced to say goodbye to ones you've grown attached to. You would level backwards. Losing key powers or skills would be a condition of advancing (or regressing, if you prefer) the story.

End with your character in his/her home. Happy. Oblivious to the trials that will soon come. United with his/her family and friends.

It could work.

I'd probably make a typical "Tales of" style RPG. Story would probably be something like "Boy lives in village in world littered with monsters. Special 'something' surrounding the cities keeps monsters from invading. Start of story, boys village gets destroyed by mysterious monster. He sets out to follow and try to kill the monster. Gains allies, finds out there is a bigger threat, and sets out to save the world from that threat because that thing is apparently opposed to the world or humanity" or something like that. I'd probably make the MC a blank-slate sort of character like Link or any of the Persona MCs. Throw in some branching story paths and alternate endings and there we go.

For me it would be a semi-social semi-mmo game of course with graphics like Puzzle Quest. The game itself would be based in my own version of 'King Arthur' times and you would play as a leader of a small village, doing menial rpg-like tasks to grow your village but also recruiting your friends to do other tasks once you've worked your way up to a castle.

From then on you could lead an army against other players online (IE: playing offline is the tutorial) and an interconnected world of puzzle like games with each puzzle representing a different part of the game would be here as kind of like your 'duties' as someone in the king's castle (IE: If you are the Royal Accountant you would do math problems to boost things in your friends castle or your own. The games would NOT be a necessary action) while you as the king have to balance out money issues, happiness, taxes and make treaties with other players, marry off your kids etcetc (IE King Arthur 2 the game with more content and more players).

An idea I've had is "John Scotch: The Patriot". You play as John Scotch a (borderline) alcoholic, overly patriotic, mans man with access to a time machine and a red, white and blue belt in drunken brawling.
The story would start with John Scotch (voiced by the one and only Steve Blum) taking on an apprentice to help him spread freedom across time. John takes his apprentice on a trial run by travelling back in time and finding the man who created the dictionary (this would serve as the tutorial level). The boss for the tutorial level would be the dictionary itself while John literally punches the letter "Uu" out of certain words in the spirit of freedom.
John would then go on several wacky (and alcohol fuelled) adventures eventually leading him to getting a mission to go back in time and fight Hitler. Hitler would be one of the final bosses including his 2 other forms; Super Sayain Hitler and Mecha Hitler. Just when the player thinks it's all over John will be teleported forward in time where he must fight his toughest opponent and arch nemesis, Communism (picture the bad guy from Rocky painted red with a yellow hammer and sickle on him) while the song "You're The Best Around" by Joe Esposito plays in the background. When Communism is finally defeated Joe would stand proudly over his defeated foe while an American flag waves proudly in the background and a bald eagle flies overhead, shedding a single manly, patriotic tear. The End/ roll credits.
The game would be a 2D side-scrolling brawler with a comic book style to it (complete with Kapow!s and Kablammy!s)and, due to the time machine, a decent amount of enemy variety.

That's about all I've got so far (well except for some loose ideas for a dinosaur level somewhere in the game) but I could totally picture some dev team making this and selling it for about $15.

There is an action/adventure platform-shooter with elements of stealth, strategy, exploration, and puzzle-solving off to the side in a mixed timeline that is majorly made up of things from the 40s, 90s, and possible future (with some extra ancient stuff on varying levels, such as pirates and dinosaurs). It would combine sandbox with level-by-level gameplay. It involves a race of animal-like creatures called "Kyrans" that have been hiding on Earth for centuries, until a madman uncovers them upon his plight for domination over the planet. A kyran wolf goes on a quest to bring peace between his own race with the humans, while fighting the madman's onslaught horde of artificial lifeforms, using guns, magic, geokenisis, and his own two fists. On the other hand, I'm also interested in making a game of satire, that parodies modern first-person shooters (with some other common problems with other types of modern games in general). Like Duty Calls, but much bigger, and with a proper story.

I should also bring this up again...

One day, the craziest videogame idea I had ever thought of popped into my head during one of those "Don't do Drugs" presentations in high school. That should give you some context. It's called "Noble". And it makes no sense at all.

Reginald Noble awakes from his chambers and strolls around the military base. He is the only one dressed casually, and the only one in the entire complex speaking informally.

When war breaks out, Reggie breaks out his three-headed chaingun and charges out against the enemy forces in a brown/gray environment, with plenty of cover, and some extra second gun (like a shotgun, or something). It all seems like your average cookie-cutter shooter for a few minutes, until the freaky monsters start showing up.

Before you know it, you're fighting elephants with machine guns, pixelated things inside a 16-Bit dimension and battling flying textbooks that breathe fire and horrible flesh-hungry food in Mr. Noble's old high school.

It plays in a very oldschool style, reminiscent of Serious Sam, Duke Nukem or Quake. You've got weapons that shoot things like chickens and fireworks. Mines come in the form of wet cats, Reginald's melee attack is a headbutt and you gain health by chasing down anthropomorphic food that screams and runs away when it sees you (mostly doughnuts with eyeballs), all like the cheese or the key in Conker's Bad Fur Day.

Did I mention this game makes absolutely no sense and solely exists to be as ridiculous as possible?

Well, I'm glad you think so highly of my initial concept. But, I must point out that I have never taken any form of drug in my life, let alone get high or drunk.

I came up with this idea purely of out sheer boredom. That's just how my mind works. We needs more games that are just plain fun. Not with too much focus on context. (I thought this might strike someone's attention...)

]A blend between simulation type games like Silent Hunter and IL2-Sturmovik with military shooters like Battlefield, in a WW2 setting.
Big, realistic and historically correct maps. Large numbers of players, filled up with AI to control stuff like flak cannons, gun emplacements and such. Persistent frontlines.

Basicly what War Thunder is trying to become. They still have a long way to go though.

It would also make an awesome game! I like your ideas of Sherlock Holmes... the only problem is that Sherlock Holmes stories always start in his living room somehow... It's a pretty big trait that should be inserted into the game...

Maybe that could be just down to the main missions... and then like in Arkham City, other stories can be persued when you come across them on the map...!

That would be true - have to start in the living room. I just wouldn't want it to start with 'selecting case mission' like in LA Noire, because that just felt clunky to me in some respects, and pulled me away from being the character. I'd like it to be more fluid...

But then I guess you could also have the mission start with a phone call or someone at his door... with Watson turning up! Interesting... the home could be like how it is for GTA as well... interesting!
