I would go to the future so I could get a working time machine.

If I can't do that I wouldn't leave the present.

I'd keep the time machine until I grew old and near-death... And then, I would take it back to right now, slap myself, and yell, "HA!".
But why would you do that? You can slap yourself now.

I would go 10,000 years into the future, and hope everything's still more or less intact.

I would go to the time that google was just created, and put every penny I have into it's stock.

Three words, INVEST...IN...GOOGLE.
Better yet, I'll go to my parents in 1992 and say Invest in Microsoft, Google when it comes out, Amazon in 1997 and Apple before they announce the Ipod.

I'm fine with my own time. You never know what the future will be like. And even if it is a great technological eden, then you'll feel like you're parents and/or grandparents needing someone to help you operate even the most simplistic of future technology. Then there's the thought that the world might be destroyed in some apocalyptic scenario and civilization is gone and you're the last person on earth. Then there's the past. If you go too far back in time the tech you bring will be near useless, or will run out soon, you might even be burned alive as a witch for having access to such devices, and even if you weren't you've been too pampered by the tech and order in our society to survive or even tolerate it for very long. I'd keep it, but if I had to go I'd go back in time to when I was a little kid, and tell myself about life, lessons and things I wish I'd known back then. Then I'd dissolve out of existence, since me being there continously would result in a time-paradox and this universe would simply cease, caught in an infinite loop, and I'd be fine all over the map.

But if they invest too much in microsoft it could upset the balence and destroy Google and apple.

With my superior knowledge of explosives, I'd lead the Irish and Scots to victory over England. Muwahahahaha.

1970 and live forward from there, predicting the rises and falls of the stock market, paying to go see all the gigs my generation couldn't see, then grow old and come meet myself at my flat now and say "Dude...it's totally fucking worth it. Take everyone with you, you'll take drugs, get drunk and get laid, plus you'll have a market for those pulp novels you make. IT CAN'T FAIL"

I thought it over and my answer is this:

I'd visit a biology professor (with a car not a Time Machine) and ask him if new complex cells were introduced into the first waters where the first cells developed would it kill the early cells? If not, would the complex ones influenced the early ones? If so, jump into a pool of pre-historic ooze and change evolution and there for all history.

If any of those answers didn't work out I'd bring a copy of every Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Hitchhiker's Guide, and every other great selling book from the last 100 years and go back 110 years and rewrite them all.

Hey, my parents worked in a record shop back then, so they couldn't upset Wall street with their contribution. And besides after Microsoft they would have tons of money for Apple and Google.

Simple enough, really: I'd redo last Friday and have myself not fail. If all goes well, my life will be the most incredible form of excellence. If it doesn't, more time to do this weekend's homework at least.

Now that, is a plan. Hell I'd have them invest in EA when it comes out too. That beast will never die.
