Starcraft 2, Scientists have already replaced chess with it in certain experiments because it demands the strategy of chess in the pressure of real time.

I wish there were more cerebral activities in the Olympics, it would widen it's appeal and let everyone feel included.

I'd say a long game like the Total War games. They have two strategical elements, managing resources and territories and also real time battles. I find these far more interesting to watch than Starcraft and LoL (I'm not bias because i play both of them). These games should last 6 hours to 24 hours (kind of like cricket) and would be a free for all where one country must wipe out the others (Alliances may be formed however must be broke if the alliance includes the last remaining players).

You know what? I agree with Guitar Hero. At least you're doing something physical and with necessary coordination skills.

I would not limit it to one game but rather make several games in a speed run akin to the Nintendo World Championships of years past. [link]http://cinemassacre.com/2011/08/26/avgn-nintendo-world-championships/[/link]

There would be a pool of some 100 games known to the competitors in advance.

On the day of competition, 5 of those games would be chosen entirely at random.
Each round would involve 5 other random games such that the most well rounded gamer wins.

Games would cover all major genres and playstyles of course:
Example:
#1) Starcraft 2 - 1 on 1 match
#2) Rockband - Guitar - Painkiller
#3) Super Meat Boy - Speed run of X levels
#4) Super Street Fighter 4 - 1 on 1 Best of 7 Match
#5) COD MW: (whatever is appropriate for FPS online tournament play)

They need to take out the walking events and replace them with goose-stepping. PDRK would probably win it every time, but damn would it be funny to watch.

But for games, eh... they don't even have Chess as an Olympic game, so I don't see how any video games are even remotely close. I'd love Chess to be at the Olympics though, because then you could also have Chess Boxing, which is like the greatest sport ever.

Makes no sense considering we already have annual or even monthly pro-game tourneys. Although it would be funny to make them play QWOP.

Mario Kart.

There will be murders that night. Those will be broadcast too.

The ultimate death sport.

Starcraft 2!

But UT2k4 is a good choice as well. I have many fond memories of that game, countless hours of Onslaught or Vehicle CTF.

People have mentioned Street Fighter and StarCraft already, so I will go with Pokemon. Competitive Pokemon can get pretty nuts.

Any answer that isn't Unreal Tournament, UT2004, or Quake 3 Arena is the wrong answer!

And forget this boring mentality of athletes sitting down on computers and playing the game. No, let's get them to do a team deathmatch for real.

If that happened, I might start actually paying attention to the Olympics.

The most plausible suggestion would be motion control ones. Which suck.

I'll go with QWOP.

I have to say some suggestions I actually quite like .. or would, if they weren't potentially many hours long. (I'm looking at you, minecraft survival.)

I think it would have to be in-bounds only Portal playthroughs. Alternatively they could have Olympic representatives choose a selection of the user-submitted maps in a "blind challange" mode that test a range of abilities.

Then they could have a prize for anyone that got a map approved by the Olympic Committee, be it cash or tickets to the event.

Seconded. Also Smash Brothers.

And WipEout. Heck, just make WipEout a real sport. Get on it, science!

That Survival Games-map from Minecraft.

Also, the audience could get a vote in what the admins get to do (That is dump lava or cake) or if a killed player gets a second shot or not.
lol no it should be a creative map, without telling the contestants that they can't "lose".
