Id take Dogmeat over the fable dog any day. Dogmeat and I have survived in 3 different post nuclear apocalyptic settings (yes he is in 2 your not looking hard enough). Id need leather armour and a sawn off though to complete the look. He would warn me of approaching enemy?s, protect me when I sleep, and rip the face off of Jimmys super mutie, and give me some one to ramble to and help prevent insanity due to isolation in the wasteland and constant violence, Dogmeat doesn?t judge me!

Neither Navi nor that stupid owl (the one that parks on one branch for the rest of the game, but you HAVE to keep hearing him say the same things when you pass by) from OoT would last very long as my traveling companion.

The Dark Prince, or an equivalent 'Dark Me' created the same way. Sure he's a part of your subconcious mind that sarcastically insults you for being too soft and merciful but in most games these days he'll see enough gore to satisfy. Also for ease of transport- the mask of Aku Aku you'd have to either carry or wear everywhere.
If that's not an issue, I'd still want someone appropriately snarky. Maybe Axel from Kingdom Hearts or Jack Sparrow.
