Of a brand new Nintendo DS. It's black and I got FFIV with it for free, and I'm as proud as punch of my new baby.

The whole thing got me thinking about the arrival of a new console, and the feelings that come along with it. For some it's the culmination of years of wishing and hoping, scrimping and saving. For others it's just another system but for others still, the big day arrives and you're strangely disappointed with your new baby.

Two topics for discussion here.

Isn't it sad that these feelings can well up for a consumer product?

I remember when I first got my DS for x-mas two years ago. I was as happy as could be, thinking I got the new hand held. I got Kirby Canvus Curse with it. I played it allllll day long.

Getting my 360 was a dissapointment, as are all material things that I look forward to. I have also managed to avoid feelings of affection to it and just enjoyed my games on it.

But my GBA and GBC <3 Fond memories

I remember when I got my first console, the good old N64. I was the happiest kid on my street for weeks, spent nearly every free moment I had playing on it.

Hell, I still fire the thing up now and again to play some Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time, despite all of the newer consoles I've gotten over the years.

The only inanimate objects I have ever had feelings for is my late PlayStation. I cried when it finally died. So many great games that I wanted to play one more time...

And my most recent console was my Xbox 360. I was feeling rebellious when I got it, because my parents told me I wasn't allowed to.

Boy, that blew up in my face.

When I got my 360. I saved up for like a whole year and bought it with a copy of Bioshock. I took the whole school week off.

I thought I was going to be congratulating Hey Joe on being a father.

...

Well this is certainly awkward.

Don't you be rebuking me for thinking such in the gaming dissociation.

I thought this was going to be about parenting. Though, since it is in gaming...

Anyways, the last console I got was my Xbox 360, and it was great. I got it after an agreement with the folks, so it was all the more rewarding when I picked up the thing. Fun times.

When i bought my very own PS3. 2 Months working at a job i hate, over christmas holidays, and finally had enough to buy it. I was so happy. Everyone was jelous in my town (small country town) and wanted to play it. Telling them no and seeing their sad, destroyed faces made it all the merrier

Greatest console acquisition was my Gamecube, my family and I were going through... let's say... changes... and I didn't have anything of my own, all my consoles, toys, computer, everything gone. And that Christmas I got a Gamecube with Luigi's Mansion, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Pikmin. Happiest months of my life.

I have fond memories of my SNES, especially the imported NTSC one that allowed me to play awesome games like Chrono Trigger and FF VI, which were apparently too cool for Europe.

My most recent console is a super nes ... Yes I know.. but my parents never let me have one.
But it does not disapoint the only one that did was the game boycolor due to the lack of good titles I also like my N64 I traded my GBA with no games for an N64 with ocarina of time. I already bought an SP and my friend was going to buy a Cube. Not a bad trade.
Well I'm happy with all my nintendo stuff.

why not buy a converter... anyway FF VI has been ported to death by now and CT will be.
Besides Europe has Terranigma and that one is up to par with chrono trigger.

Mostly, I buy old consoles, so the excitement isn't that great. It's good, but not jump up and down exciting. Last thing I bought was a DS too, and it was exciting. But once I'd finished Super Mario 64 and Metroid Prime: Hunters, I sold it on. Wasn't really my cup of tea.

My most recent purcahse was my 360 (of which I paid most, and my parents paid the rest) for my birthday present.

With big purchases (relative to my income) like these I feel nervous when I buy them, because it's so much money wasted if I don't like it. However, thoroughly enjoying the 360 so it all worked out well.

N.B: I thought this was going to be about parenting as well...

I just bought a 360 and in order to make myself feel good about the purchase I lie to myself and everyone around me that I bought it with a gift card rather than a Best Buy credit card because I want to think I'm not in as much debt as I am. I am consoled by the soothing voice of Glados promising me cake when I finish the test but I don't see how she can expect me to be ok with walking through these holes constantly. My enamel hurts.

I got my 360 for Christmas last year and hugged the bloody thing for an hour.

Then I dropped the power supply on my foot.

...ow.
