Why? Because of this.

Why (indeed, how?) would you be typing in a text comment on YouTube if you can't read? I can't imagine a set of circumstances that would actually need this.

If anybody can explain this to me, I'd be glad to hear why this is in place.

Also, discussion value: Post your own example of something that just doesn't make any sense.

It's to prevent spam-bots. Same reason we have them here.

This guy's correct.
They make the words all wavey-like to prevent someone from developing a program to be able to read them.

I think it might be asking if you can't read the captcha, not asking if you can't actually read

No, I understand what a Captcha is. I was referring to the little link you can press underneath the type-in box that says "Can't Read?"

That doesn't make any sense.

That's just for when the Captcha looks too weird to read. All it does is change the word or read it out.

It's for when someone genuinely can't read it and it'll generate a new captcha.

Click it and find out :p

But really, it's there to switch the captcha if the one you're shown is too hard to read. That or you get one of the awesome ones that asks you to type in words with accents that your language doesn't make use of >.< I could make adequate use of a bilingual keyboard with all the l'accent grave I get.

Oh, sorry. Pretty dense of me not to get that. Yeah, as has already been mentioned, it's the same thing as the circle-arrows on our captcha here. It's the "what do you mean you can't read this blurry Hebrew and Cyrillic mess?" button.

Maybe they should change it to:
"can't read it?"

In case you are having trouble deciphering the captcha

It's asking you if you can read the captcha or not. Sometimes they are unreadable, so you click the "can't read" button to change the image.

Are you having an off day today?

Oh, I see. I should have figured it was, "If you can't read this Captcha response, click here", instead of "If you can't read at all click here".

I guess I just need to learn to give people more credit, and to give myself less credit when I think about starting a thread.
