I think it's quite old now, but was essentially a cross between Settlers and The Sims .
From what I remember you controlled a group of nordic type people who could take on really specific careers such as lumberjack/teacher/soldier etc, and was quite personal in that aspect.
Typical build a village/expand sort of thing.

Any suggestions? I'd love to find it again.

That does sound amazingly awesome, but my knowledge of PC games falls between Half-Life to DOOM so I won't be much help. Sorry.

Found it myself XD Its called Northland, third game in the Cultures series. Underrated in my opinion, got some mediocre reviews, and its old, but I like it ^_^
