Drink lots of water. It dilutes the bacteria in your system so your body doesn't react to them so strongly. It's the reason why you feel like SHIIIIT in the morning. You're dehydrated. It has the added benefit of causing some of those bacteria to go down the toilet. Also, take vitamin zinc. All the "Air Guard" and "Your cold will be two days shorter!" products are all just massive doses of vitamin zinc. Read the back of the boxes if you don't believe me. And a bottle of Zinc is a hell of a lot cheaper than what they charge.

Also, buy Zinc, and all vitamins, in the cheapest generic form. The brand names don't have anything special in them. You're just paying twice as much for pretty bottle and the brand name.

Lastly, just as a side note, tooth whitening products and anything that claims to "clean with the power of oxygen!" it's all just hydrogen peroxide. You can get a bottle of it for a buck. Swish your mouth with it for whiter teeth.
I'm really sorry but I just can't let this go...

Firstly, Zinc is not a vitamin, vitamins are organic molecules which can not be synthesized in sufficient quantities by the organism in which they are required. Vitamins must be obtained from food. Zinc is an element, in nutritional terms it is classified as a mineral.

While it is true that you should keep your intake of fluids up while you are sick it's got nowt to do with diluting bacteria. For starters colds and flu are caused by viruses not bacteria so there is that. Problem the second is that drinking enough water to cause dilution of the blood plasma is really dangerous. It screws up the bodies osmotic potential gradients and electrolyte balance. There is a reason your blood contains the amount of water it does, too much and your cells will start swell up. Which particular problem for neural tissue as the brain can swell so much it is crushed against the skull not to mention that changes electrolyte concentrations are going to severely hamper the chemical reactions in all of your cells too.

Also you can't pee out bacteria or viruses, your kidneys filter them out of your urine. This is why urine is sterile it's not because it contains ammonia btw.

I can't remember what I had, it could have been a cold, the flu, or whatever, but I got really dehydrated. I wasn't drinking enough either just because of my throat and I'm a little *****. But here's the funny bit. I was on the toilet, stood up to wipe too fast, and fainted. I remember standing up, black, then waking with my face smashed up against a wall outside the bathroom....without pants....

Oh, it might have been the same time, but I had a fever and had a weird hallucination. I remember feeling awful, watching One Piece. Chopper was translating what a weird bird was saying, and then the hallucination kicked in. He turned to look at me and said "I'm going to kill you." I knew it was fake but it was in his voice so it was still freaky.

So there's your story/joke.

I haven't had a common cold in a few years either, not severe enough to remember at least.

Hint: If you're taking any pills or medicine for the coughing/sore thorath, then read the pack how much to take, I overdosed some pills and got high as hell, can't remember anything from the day after 17 but my familymembers tell me I was all super energetic and happhappyjoyjoy!!

Get well!

I was one of the first people to get a cold this year. I had one pretty bad day which I spent being sore and sad, but the next day I was miles better, and now all that remains are the occasional cough or sniffle.

My worst flu (the only time I'd ever call something the flu) totally wrecked me for a week. I was sore all over, I would spend half hour thinking before I'd get up to do anything (such as the toilet or to get a refill of OJ), I had one of those coughs that shreds your entire throat on the way out and every movement felt tingly. I spent the days mostly lying in bed trying to keep warm and drifting in and out of consciousness.

I know that feel, I'm also ill right now.
Judging from my FB feed everyone else is so there must be something going around.
I had to work today too and it was hell ;;
It came on so quickly, I was out for a meal last night with my boyfriend and started feeling unbearably stuffy, walked home and bam. Swollen glands, aching all over, headache, difficulty in swallowing, temperature but freezing at the same time...

I think I've been ill at least once a month since summer :/

Over the Summer I had a nasty flu, the first time I had been sick in a long time. It destroyed me for a good week. I had a full body ache, loss of appetite so I got incredibly thin and sickly looking, no energy, and a few nights of awful sleep and fever dreams. I remember finishing the Last of Us on the day it got really bad. Maybe that is why my opinion of it has been soured a bit. :p

I'm currently sick myself. I get colds pretty often, and they rarely slow me down, but this one has just hit me really hard for some reason. I barely have the energy to move about the house.
Not good considering I'm moving house tomorrow...

I had a bad case of gastroenteritis a few years ago, and spent most of it curled in a ball crying. My parents had to keep me hydrated as I lost quite a lot of fluid. I remember my mother making me eat toast and cereal. Needless to say, what went down went back up quite spectacularly. There are certain foods I just can't eat now because it reminds me of when I was sick and my parents made me eat something just so that I had something to bring up. I haven't been that ill before or since then fortunately.

Well, strictly speaking (Aye, again.), only the ones having to do with actual brain chemistry changes are called an illness. The rest is the natural ebb and flow of the emotional system as a response to a bad situation.

Funnily enough there does seem to be something going around right now, quite a few people I know currently are down with the flu or something like that. I guess it's that time of year...

I remember the time i had a mild week long flu thing that then triggered my immune system in to attacking the capillaries that supplied blood to my retinas.

Good times.
Not to be the 'must top everything' guy, but when I was very small, I developed or contracted some illness that made me 'allergic' to my own antibodies. Apparently this caused lesions all over my internal organs, resulting in my heart stopping.

So yeah, I died for a few minutes when I was a kid.

OT: This wasn't the last time I got sick, but it was memorable as hell. I must have been about nine, and my mum went to Peru for a few days. This left my dad to cook for us. Because I didn't like what him and my sisters were having, he whipped me up some fish.

This resulted in food poisoning so bad I had to sleep on a camp-bed because of the double end diarrhea.

We had to burn the foam mattress. It was beyond saving.

Great timing, I think I'm coming down with something too. Just hoping that this time it won't lead to reactive arthritis this time, cos that was hell on toast. That happened about 4 years ago after I'd had a cold, or at least that was the best guess the doctor had once I actually got to see a specialist; it took two months to get an appointment and by that time it had cleared up by itself. My joints swelled up and my hands and feet were purple with the swelling. Walking felt like I was walking on shards of glass. (I have before and after pictures of my feet if you're interested, lol.) NOT FUN is what I'm trying to say. Ever since then the circulation in my feet has been worse too =/

Home remedies? Have none beyond hot tea/warm milk with honey. When I'm sick is the the time I least feel like taking a hot shower but that can help too.

No jokes. I'm awful at jokes. Watch the Dara Ɠ Briain clip above instead =)
