Look if this belongs in one of the umpteen million threads already made I apologize in advance I don't want it to be linked to the arguers. this thread isn't about anyone specifically so much as everyone. Every time one of these controversies boils over it winds up basically turning into a screaming match between the extremes on both sides of the spectrum and I'm tired of it. I'm tired of it all.
Look if you're the type of idiot who would make rape threats to an actual flesh and blood human being man or woman I have no interest in what you want to say and if your someone who thinks gaming is a cesspool of misogyny and meatheads I'm not talking to you either. I'm in favor of everyone being treated the same essentially, yeah our genders have built in differences but on a person by person basis that means exactly fuck all.
I am a gamer. I will never be ashamed to identify as such but right now I'm just tired of listening to both sides tell me what I am. I'm a man, I like boobs and ridiculously sexualized character design, AND I like strong female characters in normal clothes and I like equality. I think everyone who's ever played a game deserves their dream game weather that's big muscle dudes suplexing tiger sharks into volcanos wearing bolo ties or women in comfortable shoes slapping said idiotic muscle dudes or anything in between. That's the wonderful thing about our medium it is such a broad spectrum that there's room for everything, oversexualized characters and really well developed ones and every type of experience in between.
I am a gamer, and I think the majority of you people are like me. I'm tired of being told that gaming culture is toxic and we should ashamed of ourselves. the problem is most of us just get on about our day being normal decent people and that doesn't make a good article. I'm so tired of watching gaming discussions turned into an episode of crossfire where everyone is wrong and they're all assholes for different reasons. it seems like not too long ago when the whole "toxic culture" thing became the buzzword of gaming press they were smart enough to preface it with "this is just a VERY vocal minority" and as time wore on the preface disappeared and now we're all just toxic. Well I'm tired of it. How about in this thread we just share positive stories of how gaming brought us together.
To be clear i'm on neither side here. Treating women like crap for fun is retarded as in you must be mentally damaged to do it. But much like being called gamer, I will never apologize for being a man and enjoying Dead or alive, or rumble roses, or dragon's crown, or for that matter enjoying Metroid, or the walking dead games. i'm looking for some solidarity here, I really believe that 80-90% of gamers are good people because 80-90% of people are good people.
Anybody else just really tired?
