This has been bugging me for a while now, whenever I say I hate something people always say "Hate's such a strong word" in reply. Now, think about this for a moment, if hate is such a strong word, then wouldn't the point of using it be to show how much you dislike something? Basically I am saying that I SAY I hate something because I HATE IT. It may be a strong word, but I strongly dislike whatever I'm describing, so hate seems appropriate doesn't it?

So my question to you escapist is this, Is it so ridiculous to think that if somebody says they hate something THEY MAY ACTUALLY HATE IT!

Yes it is, how dare you dislike something intensely. That's ridiculous.

I think a lot of words are far overused anyway. Like "Love", "Hate" is overused by a large number of people. There's no way you feel true "love" towards those shoes, just like you can't really "hate" that someone cuts you off in traffic.

At least, I don't think that such strong emotions can be provoked by such small things. Maybe they can an I have just never felt them like that, I don't know.

Bah! Hate is such a dull word.

Detest! Loathe! Despise!

If you must hate, use it like this:

You underestimate the amount of ferocity that some people have access to. Also, I commend you for not feeling hate before.

It's not that I haven't felt hate...I just only feel it for things that warrant it, I guess. I only hated a couple of things...ever. It's just not an emotion I like to feel, and luckily, don't feel it often.

The same applies for the word "Need" in my mind. Things that you need are things that are essential for you to exist as a person and individual. Food, Sleep, Clean Air, Safe Conditions, moderately low levels of ionizing radiation, gravity, batman, things people use and have every day and take for granted because they're readily accessible. I'm going to assume that entire last statement applies to you, since you have the luxury of easy access to a computer and the internet.
Things that people want is a much longer and whiner list.

I love being angry at small things. It feels satisfying to know that somebody has wronged me, and I didn't just roll over for them, but I didn't go all insane and start throwing chairs at them.

Context is imperative. Seriously, you have to consider when you should and shouldn't use words like hate. It is essentially a superlative, and it can easily be overused. Now, I'm certainly not saying you shouldn't use it. I use it all the time; I hate things, lots of things in fact and that's fine. The problem only arises when it's used to the point of being redundant and annoying.

Because some words are overused and they lose their origional meaning ie

Hate: an intense dislike to the point you'd happily bring harm to it.
Epic: Somthing that is truly huge in scale.
Irony: not overused per se but nobody seems to know what it actually means.

I agree with you about the needs and wants thing, I know when I need something and want something, I don't think I've actually said I NEED something other than academic supplies in several years. I can recognize when I need and want something.

But, about hate, some people (myself included) are passive-aggressive psychopaths who HATE the small things people do. I wish a good number of the people I've met never existed. That is not to say, of course, I want them dead. I would never truly wish death upon somebody who didn't kill someone else. Death only causes people who are close to them to feel bad. I wish they had never existed, so I get my wish of them not making me miserable, and their close friends and relatives don't have to grieve over them. Your definition of hate suits the way I use it perfectly.

*cough* My boss said that to me a couple months ago when I said I seriously hate her sometimes.

Boss: *Hours of moaning and just trying to piss me off*
Me: Fuck I hate you at times ya know that.
Boss: Don't say that. Hate is such a strong word!
Me: Yeah well thats because I do. You act like a right **** so I fully hate you.

***** ran out of the work and did not show her face for the rest of the day. ^.^
But I mean it. If I could stab her and get away with it I would. If she had a heart attack I would kick back with a drink and smile.
Harsh? Maybe. But she does indeed deserve it.
I want to give you a high-five right now. FINALLY SOMEONE WHO GETS IT!

Nothing wrong with harboring genuine hate for concepts you consider to be massively detrimental to society, but remember...
...yeah.

I don't mind hate, I just hate hearing the same thing complained about over and over again, we get it Justin Bieber has no testicles and twilights a bad movie. You shelled out whatever the price is to see Vampire Sucks and laugh at a kid getting hit with a water bottle oh how it must feels to be so right all the time.
