That's kind of a sad thought to think about.

I mean, I've know forever that if a lady takes on her husband's surname, then their family name ends with her.

However, there's still hope.

You can have your name hyphened with your significant other's (i.e. Sarah Myers-Johnson). I've also seen kids take their mothers surname or full hyphened name as well. There's also the off chance that your significant other will take on your surname (i.e. Gendo Ikari fomr NGE).

OT: I think you should have a small and obscure artifact imbued with your family name and buried with you so that you can live on in the bafflement you cause to future archaeologists.

EDIT: It's quite possible that my own family will cease to exist beyond the year...2050, say? We lived long and prospered and were quite lucky, but all things move on.
