Imagine, you were born immortal, unable to age past the end of puberty. A divine fuck up of royal magnitude. You couldn't be killed, couldn't age. Sure, that's fine for a while, but I've read enough books and watched enough movies to know that immortality gets boring after a while, and in the end, mortality gets us all.

However, there is a massive price if you want to be able to die. Every single sentient being on the planet would have to die first.

Sure, it would be fun tearing through a few murderers, tyrants, rapists, paedophiles and so forth, but in the end you have to start killing innocents.. like children, and newborns.

At the end of the road, would you give up your humanity in order to die? Or would you live forever to keep it, when in the end you'd probably go insane from boredom..

Or, would you find a way to do it without, you know, knifing everyone, shooting and nuking everyone. If anyone has seen Children of Men, I'd find a way to make that happen instead.

Discuss!
Well if i was born immortal then that would mean i would stay a child forever!
That's one thing you forgot to clear up.

That would be great thing in my opinion. I could fulfill my dream of creating a small stone tower up north and siting there and thinking, watching how humanity tears itself apart, when I am finished thinking and answered every question there is to be answered. I would take it as my job to write it down, put it safe and end everything... Then I could live in solitude till I see fit to end it... Ah what a dream for me... Ability to live as long in solitude as I possibly can want to...
(I know... It sounds wrong, a bit F'ck-up... I really don't like people much. And I am happy when I am in solitude so...)

I would become the new Diety of planet Earth over throw the Vatican, and get people to stop being morons about life. Plus I'd kill pretty much every drug dealer/gang banger/terrorist/pedophile I could find.

I would hang around for a long damn time. I wanna see where humans go from here.

Well lets see.. I know im gonna loose myself to boredom at some point so to secure humanity as a spieces i make sure that they are spread around the universe by the time i do so. That way even if i wanted to kill humanity off i couldnt and thereby force myself not to? Besides even if i cant die i can still freeze myself down. Permasleep till some idiot decides to wake me up.

I like the option of going on a space adventure and maybe coming back and checking if humanity is still around. Then becoming fabulously rich and awesome before leaving on another adventure after a few years.

Repeat until humanity either kills itself or I've gone so crazy I come up with a stupid enough reason to do it myself that I find justifiable in my insanity.

why need a spaceship if you can't die :3 hitchhike a ride along a routine spaceflight, and jump off :D it'll take a while to actually reach something, but it's not like you're in a rush.
I could be the human Spacebat!

Seriously, though: does the immortality apply after the human species has evolved? We need more specifics, dammit!

There was a character on a cartoon once who was immortal, went insane, got bored of that and went sane, VERY sane.

I'd kinda like to be immortal to reach that point of being so bored with insanity that you go too far the other way.
Ben 10. Doctor Paradox, wasn't it? :D Great show. Surprisingly intelligent.

I'd start up numerous businesses until I hit it big, like Rupert Murdoch big. Then I would retract from public life, and have my children and countless heirs run the business publically. I would just keep having children at a steady and sustainable rate with hot women.

I'd also become an insane guitar shredder and post masked youtube videos for fun of me playing badass tunes and pulling off craxy sweeps, tapping and alternate picking solos.

I'd fund intergalactic research and lunar colonies, I'd be a government power broker too and lobby to get guns out of 3rd world countries and give Africa a chance to gain its independence. I'd also hire a task force of mercenaries to enter Thailand, Cambodia etc and execute all known paedophilles and irradicate child sex rings by any means.

I would use my wealth to punish those who go unpunished.

Life is too awesome to get bored of it. In fact, I plan to be immortal when I hit 27 in a few weeks. It's all a matter of the mind!

Like Hob Gadling, why should I die? Death is a stupid idea!!

like it has been said before I wouldn't get bored id fight crime give blood and body parts to science (i take it they would grow back) become the worlds best game designer :D if I get bored of that I would learn something new until I was the best but not ageing beyond puberty is a bit of a vague state meant does that mean 18 or does that mean 13

I would have fun as long as there were sentient life on the planet, so it works out for me.

You could wait 5 million years for the sun to expand. Life will end the the planet then (so will the planet).

Live forever being awesome on a cycle of visiting all planets with sentient life to see how things advance.

Not a problem at all.

If I'm going to die, the universe can as well for all I care - I will know nothing of it, the eternal blackness awaits.

No matter how everything would go, I'd go mad in the end and take humanity down with me.

You know, this is a great point.
Just 'cause you're immortal, doesn't mean you have super strength or anything. It just means you can't die.
The OP didn't even specify that you can't feel pain.

Which means that anyone could capture and torture you unendingly. How horrific.

I mean, look at the scenario. It never says you can't lose body parts, or that you won't bleed or get sick. Just that you never would die. Which means you could be a torso, cut-up and laying in a ditch with some horrific flesh eating disease...and never die. You'd just living in agony for eternity.

Quite frankly, that sounds horrible.

So, more on topic, I would probably just wander the world, learning everything I could.
And, no, I would never kill everyone in order to secure my own mortality. That's beyond selfish.

Hell yeah! This movie was amazing and it catapulted Alfonso Cuaron to the top three directors in my personal list. It was just... great.
OT: Probably. I wish it could be like, when I turned 25 though. If I could do that, then definitely. I'm a big history fan, and I like to see how history affects the present and/or future, so this would put me in an amazing position. And if everyone decides to kill each other off, I'd die anyways, so I wouldn't float in space forever. But good question dude, that gave me a few minutes of introspective thinking.

Well, this doesn't make that much sense.

You become mortal if everyone dies, right? So you'll basically live until Earth ends. wat.
