Someone pointed me towards this game. I hadn't read anything about it before, and was wondering what the escapist thinks about it seeing as this is a place which talks a lot about games as art. It's short, a couple minutes at most, and free to play. I don't want to give away what it's about if you haven't, but I found this to be a really touching game.

Thoughts, Escapist?

Probably one of the most beautiful games I have ever played, In the 2 or 3 minutes of play time I felt more of a connection to the family and creature than I do with most of the characters I play in both console and PC RPG's.

Thought provoking.....

Ok wow, a snooty artsy game that doesn't suck. Seriously, that was a decent game.

I am gonna give it a second play through in fact.

is this ALL i have to look forward to in most indie games?

A bunch of masturbatory intellectualism.
It attempts to show much more than it is capable of doing.

Really? A bit of mood music and walk thru a generic warzone scene pulls at you that much? :p

Don't get me wrong, I thought it was pretty good. An alien crashes onto our world and gets caught up in humanity.....I just knew it was gonna be a walk thru a warzone. These artsy types always use war to "display the true dark nature of the human condition" or some crap.

I didn't expect the escort mechanic, that was cool.

The interesting concept is hampered by shitty execution. It's like expecting you to feel bad for a character that dies ten seconds into a movie. 7/10.

Honestly if they would have showed more than a no context warzone, it wouldn't have seemed so much like a leftist fap game.

I wouldn't say it was thought provoking for me, but I agree with you on feeling a connection to the family. Was just very well executed; it was a strange unsettling feeling I got when I noticed I was starting to slow down, I wasn't quite sure at first.

Alien ship falls to earth, earthlings gather to kill it, what more setup is needed for a warzone?

I didn't want to say that, but thank you.

Played it before, and it was sad then...
Though I can console my self that it wouldn't turn out that way!

I know what you mean, when he started to slow down just the tiniest bit I started to worry a bit. As he began to slow down, it dawned on me just what was going on.

I didn't think of it as humans coming to kill the alien. I thought it was an alien escorting a family through a warzone as infantry and artillery was attacking from both sides.

Decent idea, shallow game. Imagine if this game had a longer play time, more challenges and scenarios and more mechanics being introduced. I guess indie devs are too busy to make games that are longer than a minute.

Edit: Actually I was getting pretty bored by the end so I guess Pixelante had less than a minute's worth of good design ideas.

The earthlings aren't there to kill the alien, the war is already going on. The alien just gets dropped into the middle of it.

Read the description at the bottom, it makes more sense then.

*facepalm*

Leftist?
I saw nothing identifiably leftist in it at all.

It's standard "horror and loss" anti-war propaganda. In the same way that games like homefront are right-wing fap games. An antithesis really.

Hmmm... that makes sense... perhaps I just jumped to assumptions because I watch a ridiculous number of cheesy sci-fi movies.

Silly, it's leftist because you don't have a gun, and can't bite off all the soldiers head. duh.[/sarcasm]

Horror and lose you say? Pretty sure I've played war games that show innocent people being slaughtered... so those must be dual-wing fap fests, right?

Indeed there are, it's called congress. But more on topic, I'm not stating that war isn't bad. I'm stating that throwing it in as a stale attempt to garner sympathy and sadness is really pathetic. The war in this game has no context or reason, it's just there to try and make you sad. Also, in the Call of Duty style games I'm sure you're referencing, the tone of the game makes it right-wing it isn't "oh no look at the poor people" it's "I'm killing all of these civilians to protect -insert generic western country here- " or "They killed all of these people, I'M GONNA MAKE THEM PAYYYYY".
