Picking up Goldeneye64 after all these years and fighting your way as far as the Egyptian level. When you get there, you have to do that tile puzzle to get the Golden Gun. This was and still is fudging impossible! There were no hints and nothing in the game so far would possibly give you a clue as to how the puzzle. I broke my streak by opening up an ancient NOM for a second time and the solution was there.

I'm going to say tomb raider 2 on the PSX. I remember I saved the game with like 1% health left, I was in the air, and if I droped 10cm I would get shot in the womb! Every time I loaded I died, on the last level!

Protecting the C-5 from enemy fighters in Ace Combat 5. I think I've tried around 250 times and every time the damn plane bites the dust.

Any of those lame situations in RPGs where you come up against a boss that is WAY more powerful than your party should be at that stage of the game, yet it is actually possible to do some gay shit like power-level for a million hours beforehand to beat them.

The driving section of Battle Toads, proof there is a god, because there certainly is Satan, from whom elses ass-crack could such a level be crapped out? I didn't get many games as a child, how fortunate to receive one with only two possible levels.

I will second blank0000, and remind him that Sephiroth in KH2 wasn't less of an exercise in restraining yourself from braining the nearest living being with your control, yourself included.

Personally, the last mission in Black on Black Ops. There's a part where you enter the Soviet Tower of Doom and are confronted with a million shield carrying baddies. I hate shield carrying baddies. Hate.

Ghostbusters: The Game.

Also, the fourth scene in the retaking of Kvatch. Took me five tries before realising the goodness of difficulty lowering.

Homeworld, the last level.

Not very difficult in itself, but your fleet carries over from previous levels. If you didn't do to well on that mission (Read: Know exactly what you would need in the next level), you would basically be screwed for the last level. Of course, my screwup on the third-to-last level meant I had to restart all the way back there to have a shot at the last level.

Wing Commander Prophecy: Secret Operations
Basically the whole add-on, but one level in particular.
You've got five wingmen on every single mission, to fight three dozen enemy ships per battle (usually 2 or 3 battles per mission). Not just regular ships, but 5 or 6 Stingrays. Now, for those of you who don't know WC:p (consider yourself lucky), Stingrays are horribly scary. The final mission of Prophecy had two stringrays, and in the add-on, you face half a dozen on a regular basis. Needless to say, I still don't know how it ends.

Agreed. I only beat that level when I finally played it on an emulator, with a "Save state" button. And it still took me about 88 quicksaves.

Getting trapped deep in the maintenance tunnels on Dead Rising {360} with nothing but a bowling ball and a handgun to protect yourself with.

Anyone who could fight their way out {especially at a low level with only three/four/five health blocks} is a gaming demi-god.

Disgea is a turn based tactical strategy game...how can you get out leveled...don't you know that in order to ensure victory you MUST spend the time to be 10+ levels higher than any encounter, and if you find one that is less than ten levels below you, you need to gain 20 levels to avoid it happening (these are Disgea levels so gaining 20 is no big deal)
Yes, that is true, but I would like to spend that time advancing the story, not grinding Etna From level 1 to 30 for eight hours!
Dude, levels in Disgaea go up to 9999, and to really tweak things out you'll get there multiple times and transmute back to level 1 for the stat bonuses.

It's a game about grinding....
