About 6 months ago, a friend got me wrapped up in an MMO called "City of Heros/Villains." (I haven't touched City of Heros, yet.) In this game, you create a Hero, or a Villain, using a creation process that builds a totally unique appearance. Their "costume" is unique to that character. So unlike games that use equipment to alter the appearance of your character, this game allows you to choose how your character will always look. (I should note that you can make different costumes for the same character a little later in the game.)

However the game itself has lost its luster, the community is dwindling in the light of newer games, and I'm growing tired of it graphicly. Still, I could create characters all night long, and never get tired of it.

I wonder if there are other games out there (and it doesn't need to be an MMO, or super hero/villain themed) that allow for this level of character creation? Not like, just my facial apperiance or mere body type. I mean, all costume elements.

Thanks. :)

I once stayed up all night at a friend's house making hilarious miis on his wii and downloading funny ones. About 50% of the miis he has are hitler.

Champions Online, created by the creators of City of Heroes/Villains.

Does that help?

I must admit, I am amused by the character creator alone. The game itself is good, but I am entranced at what I can do with the character creator.

saint's row 2 dude, one of the best that's out there right now and it's a fun game to play;

as far as MMOs are concerned, check out an upcoming game called APB, specifically the video below:

Spore has a pretty amazing character creation process. Everything from individual characters to buildings, to vehicles and space craft.

Champions is probably your best bet, it's character creation is supposed to be even better than city of heroes/villains. And I am also in agreement, I too love to make characters, hell when I played city of heroes, I didn't even use half the characters I created I just enjoyed making them and setting their backstories.

There is an upcoming MMO action title called All Points Bulletin which has the most impressive character creator I've seen in a while. It's a little more mundane than creating superhero/supervillain costumes but it gives an insane degree of customization. You can create your own tattoos and place them how you want on your character, which I thought was an impressive idea. Take a look at some clips if you get the chance.

Holy CRAP this. Cryptic games tend to all do that though. Graphically, I love it, but I also love cell shading.

If you like the way TF2 looks, you like the way Champs looks. Haven't played in awhile, so I'm not sure about your player base issue that you brought up.

You can do all that in Spore? Once I got to the tribal stage I deleted it from my HDD because I thought it was dumb.

Absolutely. You just have to stick with it.

Once you open up all stages you also get the opportunity to 'start again' from any stage you wish.

Hmm... for me, its a tie between Champions: Online and Dragon Age: Origins (with mods, obviously)

Saints Row 2.

It's not the best game in the world, but it's always hilarious watching my black Jesus (with a British accent) hurl people into the sea. It's really cheap to buy as well!

I'd agree with Spore. You can create some amusing stuff on there, if you know all the right editing tricks. I downloaded a spaceship someone made of Mario with his winged hat on, so you can fly through space as mario. i'm not sure where the lazers shoot out, but It would be hilarious if they came out of his crotch. "MARIO PISSES ON YOU! PUNY CREATURE! MWAHAHA!"

I created a building called the "Shitty Hall" which is a giant toilet and roll of TP. I made a ship which is Dr.Zoidberg from Futurama. I created another ship shaped like a couple of floating sponges. I made a Spaceship that looks like a giant flying Burger called "I Can Haz Spaceburger". I made a Dr.Robotnik land vehicle. The last I can think of is a building which is the decapitated head of Jack in the Box, made to look like the statue of liberty on Planet of the Apes.

The only problem I have with creators is when they assign skill sets to specific parts. It tends to limit what you can make because most people want to make their creations the best they can statistically. so you end up with a bunch of variations of the same creatures for that reason alone.

Too right, now that I've completely finished the game, I can still spend hours making hilarious looking characters, celebrities and oddities, and then just replaying missions from the clip board just to see my creations strut their stuff in the cut scenes.

With it's in-depth character customisation and the fact that all of your customisation is reflected in every cut scene, even if you don't like the game you can still use it as a basic machinima studio (you just have to make up your own script and soundtrack to match what's happening on the screen).

I enjoyed the game WWF Smackdown: Know Your Role for that reason. It's great watching your creation get smacked across the head with a metal folding chair or some scrawny little nerdo trying to intimidate someone.
