I love Stealth Games. I love them. Any game where its possible, my first build is always the sneaky type. I compulsively re-load if I get detected and have to fight. I stealth on games where its not appropriate to. And one of the reasons I love THe Escapist is because there seems to be a huge Stealth Game fan base here.
Unfortunately, the stealth characters in Skyrim are well known to be OP by now. To me, thats not even the worst problem. I've figured out my love of stealth comes down to three main aspects: patience (waiting, waiting, waiting....MOVE!), intelligence (figuring out alternative routes, guards schedules, and creative situations), and tension. Skyrim has none of these. My first character got to 100 level sneak. I could run in, in the light, and not even check rooms out before I bust in, and as long as I wasn't in bright light directly in front of them, I was good. It's no fun past a certain point, is what I'm saying.
Now, the great thing about Elder Scrolls games are we can essentially *****, nitpick, and offer post-release views on what should be; and its actually constructive and useful because MODS! Great system. I approve. So while were waiting for the Creation Kit to come, I wanted to see peoples theories on how we can fix this games Stealth options. Post yours, comment on others, go nuts, you know the drill.
My theories:
1) Remove the perk Silence, which essentially removes slowly crawling past enemies from the game, destroying tension and making things way to easy.
2)Widen to viewing cone for NPC's.
3) Some more movement options besides just crouch walking. Get the player more involved. Prone crawling and ledge hanging anyone? Get past a guard by literally crawling underneath the table he's sitting at, climbing up to rafters and going hand over hand over and entire room?
4) Break in through windows and chimneys.
5) If you're detected in someone's house, stay detected until you leave, so you cant walk into a shop, sprint upstairs, drop into Sneak and rob him dry then leave. He knows your there.
6) More stealth shouts.
5) Traps alert guards.
6) Stealth swimming. I have never talked to anyone who doesn't want this.
