So, I really want to eat lobster. Problem is, I'm in the middle of a continent and the cheapest place for lobster is still way more than one would usually pay to eat alone. However, the temptation to treat myself if very strong.

Now on the other hand, I'm pretty broke. I have a new car and the money I gained from selling the batmobile my Geo Metro is going to be used exclusively for emergency money.[footnote]I can't make my payment for my car and/or rent with my normal paycheck, I use the car money to make up the difference.[/footnote] I haven't bought any presents yet and my wallet is still pretty light >.>

Lobster. Never had it, I want it. In my stomach.

So, impulsive desire or responsibility for now? I believe life is too short to be careful all the time and that you need to have fun in order to survive. However I believe you should be intelligent about how you make your way through life or reality will catch up with you.

Lobster... I'm so damn curious! D:

So Escapist, what would you do in my situation?

[sub][sub]I don't want to wait... <.<[/sub][/sub]

You don't know if you'll like the lobster or not. It might all turn into a wasted venture. Yeah, don't do it.
But I'll never know until I try! And the curiosity is what is bugging me the most.

Well... go out with one of your friends (who must always very studious in remembering his money) and "forget" your wallet?

You can always try imitation lobster meat, I'm sure its out there.

Though if you really, REALLY want to try the real deal I'd say go for it. Maybe wait to make sure you have some back up money just in case but all in all give it a shot.

If you like shrimp and crab and other shellfish, odds are, you'll like lobster. However, you wanna find a really good seafood place to order it. You also don't have to buy a WHOLE lobster. If you're curious, get just a lobster tail. Save buying a whole one for after you've tried it.
That being said...I LOVE lobster!

Lobster is ok, not great. I suppose my thinking too much about what a lobster is that made me not too keen on it. It's an arthropod, same phylum as scorpions, spiders, centipedes, pubic lice... ;)
and just as damn crunchy as the rest :p

Go steal some lobsters from the nearest store and make a lobster farm in your basement to avoid ever having to pay for lobster again!
...or not...

Anyway, I'd say go for it if you really want to. Just be careful. Another idea is to get a whole bunch of friends to come along, and have them all order cheap things and split the bill evenly. That way, you'll pay less overall.
You'd need a lot of friends, though....

Would if I could actually :p

I'm in the middle of a continent, not many lobsters in stores.

(I've decided I will do it. If I'm complaining about being broke after this, shout at me because you're justified.)

Well, you could go with my plan, which could work if you brought enough friends.
Also, I forget that though I'm many miles from the ocean, I'm still technically on the east coast, and sorta near the ocean.

You know what? Every now and then you should treat yourself like that. Take a little risk, spice things up a bit. Yes, even if it's a minor thing like trying lobster, but doing random things like that makes life interesting.

Lobster is pretty meh. It's not difficult to make it right, which makes it less than spectacular in my mind, and half its deliciousness comes from the sauces anyway.
Now, if you really want to treat yourself with food, I think lunch at a cheap diner with good coffee with friends and/or family would be WAY better than lobster any day of the week.

Oh wait, you're going to go through with it. Well... new experiences are always great, too.

Definitely worth it. Not something I would get even annually but a very tasty meal indeed. Managed to snag a friend into coming with me and we had a great time talking together long after that live lobster was dead in my belly. Will the $40 hit me hard later? Maybe. I'm glad I took the plunge though. Curiosity and hunger was satisfied :D

The first time with lobster should be a live lobster from the store. Cut the rubber bands off the claws, put it on the floor, get a nutcracker out, and go at it like a man.
I value my fingers. I need them to play the trumpet! D:

As a person who enjoys all kinds of seafood, I'd say go for it. It kind of seems like your mind is mostly made up about this, though.

The internet makes few exceptions. Lobster is one of them.

And tell me how it is, I've been meaning to do the same thing but after Desert Bus and Steam sales, I'm running on zero monies.

Lobster really isn't that big of a deal, but hey you are an adult and free to spend money on all manner of stupid shit.
And I highly doubt you will be broke because of just this one meal, I get the impression you aren't exactly careful with money, so after you got your belly full of lobster contemplate on that for a moment.

Whats funny about this is that lobster used to be considered peasant food. The British actually tried to make it a war crime to feed prisoners lobster during the Revolutionary war, because think about what lobster is: A big nasty bug from the ocean.

Meh, a decent sized maine lobster with all the trimmings (butter, hush pups, coleslaw, etc) is at most $30. $30 isn't so bad if you've worked your fair share all week and feel like treating yourself. Also, even mediocre lobster is delicious. I say go for it. If anything, it'll make you happy and give you more motivation to make some money and follow through with those bills. I would, and now I want some damned lobster.

30 bucks? That doesn't seem right, where are you from?

Anyways, lobster is pretty damn good, but I know what you mean. It does seem like a waste to spend that on a meal for one. If I were you, I think I would put it off until I had an excuse. (Birthday, New Years, date ect.)
