Nor did I...

You think they mean those random posters and signs no one cares about or takes any notice of?
Pretty much... I remember going through one game and it actually had quite a bit of advertising to it, but then I realized I get enough of that in real life to the point of ignoring it, so I did the exact same thing.

We play games to play games, not look at digital posters on our screen.

So sad that this guy wants recognition for that

Are there ads in Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (I assume yes since this is EA we're talking about)? I really haven't noticed, I was too busy racing.
I remember seeing one (just 1) ad for T-Mobile. Also, Most Wanted had ads for Axe, and the in-game cell phone was provided by Cingular.

Isn't it the other way around: Because games become more and more mainstream, it now makes sense to advertise in them!

I don't think I remember any ingame ads ever. Apart from perhaps the Degenerator on GTA:VC, where you have to guide your red square monkey through the green square jungle.
That probably means they're working....*shudder*

Anyway, I'm sure this guy helped, so thanks guy!

But get over it now.

I remember seeing a Jack in the Box ad in Rainbow Six Vegas 2 for a food item that had just been released... about two years after RSV2 came out. It was at that point that I first noticed in-game advertising.

That was also the last time.

The only ad I remember is the ad at the very beginning of the game you have to watch advertising the other Need For Speed game. That was kind of annoying.

fifa games etc. have then, but then again, most people who realy realy like those kind of games ( as in buy the new fifa of the year each time ) arent usualy the ones who voice their oppinions online.
exept maybe as a succesfull troll being succesfull on a football site.

So... wait. Hang on a second... Am I reading this correctly?

What I got out of this is that... Now, advertising companies have graduated from being the most intrusive form of commercial ever devised, (what with there being nearly as many minutes spent watching ads, as spent watching the actual movie in the theatres I pay to see.) to actually complaining that we arent thanking them enough???

What has this world come to? There is a very, very grave over saturation of poorly written, non-relevant drivel about a product Im even LESS likely to buy after watching.

People's racial cultures are going to be drowned out by the culture of Pepsi, the religion of AT&T, and the philosophy of Google.

Its sickening.

After reading this article, it made me think. And you know what? He's absolutely right. Advertising, not necessarily in-game, but in general has definitely benefitted the gaming community.

You may not notice them, but they've helped games be produced with larger budgets, meaning better quality and quicker release dates. And they have marketed to different demographics which does help remove the belief that games are for 12 year old boys in their bedrooms. Sure, it's not the pinacle of gaming growth, but it is definitely worth praisal.

Also, if it wasn't for advertising, chances are Steam wouldn't exist, as, especially in it's early days but aswell today, advertising made up a large part of it's income.

I like the Sprunk Cola ads from GTAIV... those are nice...
Those were exactly the only ads I remember in a Video Game, and they are not even real products.

In game advertising works to an extent, but it does get ridiculous.

Take Need for Speed: Pro Street, a racing game, so you'd expect advertising from tire manufacturers, parts manufacturers, oil/gas companies, car magazines and auto manufacturers. But what you get are billboards for Energizer batteries, energy drinks and Insurance companies (no really) EVERYWHERE! Even the achievements were branded as well as the "unlockable" paint schemes.

If it makes sense to have this branding in the game then by all means do it, but don't hit me over the head with it, make it subtle or at least have some sort of logic to it. I get the Energizer placement in Alan Wake for example, but in Pro Street? Does not compute...

Advertisers get my respect when they take mine into consideration and not before.

Who is this guy again?
