In-game Avatar and sexuality

I play as females as often as I can in multiplayer games.

Means I get more free stuff

But yeah it makes socializing with other players kinda awkward.

I had a funnier situation. I met this player in Demon's Souls (there's no vice chat there) the player's nick was SenoritaBeater.
I was puzzled by which gender was the player actually? And when asked, he turned out to be a guy. Still weird.

But as for in-game avatars I always use Chloe in Uncharted 2's MP, even had the title "Miss Princess" in MvC3, cause I played Morrigan, and that's her title.
No one said a thing.

So maybe the guy was offended by the phallic imagery of your K/D...

So, keep with me on this, it's going somewhere I promise.
My friend just bought Resistance 2 and has started working his way toward getting all the trophies. I agreed to help out since I've already done all of them and we start playing online. Played co-op for a bit, then we jumped into an unranked match of team death-match (a mistake, I know, as kills only count in ranked matches). There were only about five people playing so far, counting my friend and I. We were the only two with headsets, so we stuck together and helped one another as well as the other person on our team. We said things like, "Contact. Left side," "They're up in the sniper area," and my favorite, "There he is, don't let him get away!" No swear, no teasing, no trash talking, nothing. We played for maybe two hours, then called it a night.
The next morning I turn on my PS3 and I have a message. I think it's another friend request because the other person we were playing with asked to be my friend. So I open the message and it says, "Pervert." Nothing else. Now, my avatar in Resistance 2 is the female soldier skin, but I'm a male. This is the only thing that I can think of that would offend this person, so I respond with, "Er...why? Because my avatar is a girl? A little insecure in your manliness there, aren't you? Blocked."
So, the question is: Is the fact that my avatar in Resistance 2 is a girl make me a pervert? If I had run around saying some unsightly things I would say yes, but I never said anything non-combat related. And for other fun discussion--if you don't have a long answer for or against--what's you favorite hate mail that you've ever received from random people?

The only hate mail I've gotten was from breaking people's winning streaks in fighting games and being branded for unsportsmanlike conduct. I don't play much online with consoles if I can help it.

I've played both male and female characters in games, depends on a lot of things which I won't get into. I'm not hung up on it, however in the case of shooters and such there really isn't much of a role-playing component either in terms of character abillities or even visual customization. I think with shooters it's more case of you, being you, rather than a guy playing a character as odd as that might sound. In most cases since you don't even see your character as you play even the "I don't want to look at man-butt for 12 hours at a time" argument doesn't apply.

Now granted, the guy was out of line, I mean he could just remain silent about something like that. It's also possible that there was something you said through voice chat that your forgetting.

Such are my thoughts at any rate.

Never really ran into this kinda thing while playing online, and I've run into male gamers with female avatars and I just kept playing. I know very well that there are alot of popular female video game characters and everyone wants to show it by either playing as them, drawing fanart or putting them as their avatar so it's no biggie. Honestly it could get turned around, if putting a female character as your avatar makes you a pervert then putting a male as your avatar must surely make you gay. Yep, internet logic=broken.

One of my WOW guild master's got all hoighty toighty over it and completely ranted at me in guild chat about how chavenist I was and what a pig for playing a female character. Man was her face red...It's a term of affection here in the north of england so to me not an insult, I can understand if people see a word differently though. It was more her reaction that was ridiculously over the top.

I can understand it in MMOs and RPGs in general because most of those females are more appealing to look at (which, of course, makes you basically a perv). Well I usually play female characters because it is slightly odd, you really don't see many action heroines, why not play one? My Shepard is female and my grey warden was female, my character in a Pen and Paper RP is female (just to mess with my friends really).

I'm not sure if that has something to do with my sexuality?

This. Strictly from a suitability standpoint men are generally larger than women and as such men make bigger targets. I've not played things like GoW or whatever online but I'd imagine they at least somewhat reflect this in the avatars design.

I usually play as a female avatar, I just find them more interesting, male characters in such things tend to be pretty 1-dimensional, female characters tend to be a bit more dynamic. Then of course theres crap male voice-actors (I'm looking at you ME).

I've played with a female avatar since fallout first gave me the option, the first two avatars I created were male, both got killed by rats right outside the vault. My 3rd was a female avatar and got me halfway through the game without dying.

I see nothing perverse about it so long as you're not stripping for gold in goldshire or something.

I laddering at fifa the past 3 years, if I took seriously my inbox everytime someone sais something insulting or crazy to me, I would have gone mental by now
Its just the fact of anonymity when playing online that leads to people beign rude and dumb
