Sniper Team 4 said:So, keep with me on this, it's going somewhere I promise.
My friend just bought Resistance 2 and has started working his way toward getting all the trophies. I agreed to help out since I've already done all of them and we start playing online. Played co-op for a bit, then we jumped into an unranked match of team death-match (a mistake, I know, as kills only count in ranked matches). There were only about five people playing so far, counting my friend and I. We were the only two with headsets, so we stuck together and helped one another as well as the other person on our team. We said things like, "Contact. Left side," "They're up in the sniper area," and my favorite, "There he is, don't let him get away!" No swear, no teasing, no trash talking, nothing. We played for maybe two hours, then called it a night.
The next morning I turn on my PS3 and I have a message. I think it's another friend request because the other person we were playing with asked to be my friend. So I open the message and it says, "Pervert." Nothing else. Now, my avatar in Resistance 2 is the female soldier skin, but I'm a male. This is the only thing that I can think of that would offend this person, so I respond with, "Er...why? Because my avatar is a girl? A little insecure in your manliness there, aren't you? Blocked."
So, the question is: Is the fact that my avatar in Resistance 2 is a girl make me a pervert? If I had run around saying some unsightly things I would say yes, but I never said anything non-combat related. And for other fun discussion--if you don't have a long answer for or against--what's you favorite hate mail that you've ever received from random people?
Actually, getting vexed over being called "hon" is reasonable, as it's an extremely patronizing term.xXxJessicaxXx said:I love it when girls online accuse me of being a perv becuase I have a female avatar and get riled up cos I call them hon (a term of affection me and my sister use alot) and then they find out I'm a straight girl OH TROLL LOL LOL LOL.
they think they are such special snowflakes or something...Here's a hint ''hon'' you aint the only woman in the world, get over it.
Agreed... me and my girl friend find it extremely patronizing when people call us 'hon' or 'sweets' just cause we're girls.katsumoto03 said:Actually, getting vexed over being called "hon" is reasonable, as it's an extremely patronizing term.xXxJessicaxXx said:I love it when girls online accuse me of being a perv becuase I have a female avatar and get riled up cos I call them hon (a term of affection me and my sister use alot) and then they find out I'm a straight girl OH TROLL LOL LOL LOL.

OT: I tend to play female characters only in single player RPGs, where it fits the role better in my opinion. An example is Mass Effect. I find the character of Shepard to be a bit more interesting when she's... Well, a she.
Picking a female model for multiplayer only just seems kind of... dumb.
One of my WOW guild master's got all hoighty toighty over it and completely ranted at me in guild chat about how chavenist I was and what a pig for playing a female character. Man was her face red...It's a term of affection here in the north of england so to me not an insult, I can understand if people see a word differently though. It was more her reaction that was ridiculously over the top.katsumoto03 said:Actually, getting vexed over being called "hon" is reasonable, as it's an extremely patronizing term.xXxJessicaxXx said:I love it when girls online accuse me of being a perv becuase I have a female avatar and get riled up cos I call them hon (a term of affection me and my sister use alot) and then they find out I'm a straight girl OH TROLL LOL LOL LOL.

This. Strictly from a suitability standpoint men are generally larger than women and as such men make bigger targets. I've not played things like GoW or whatever online but I'd imagine they at least somewhat reflect this in the avatars design.Rosetta said:Why?katsumoto03 said:Picking a female model for multiplayer only just seems kind of... dumb.
Equally there's no particular reason to pick a male model. Your avatar isn't you, it isn't really anyone.katsumoto03 said:Low content post is low content.Rosetta said:Why?katsumoto03 said:Picking a female model for multiplayer only just seems kind of... dumb.
I say this because there is no reason for it if you're a male (unless transsexual). I can understand it in MMOs and RPGs in general because most of those females are more appealing to look at (which, of course, makes you basically a perv). As far as I understand it, I doubt the females in that game are wearing anything but military uniforms. Not exactly the most erotic outfit know to man (Fetishes aside...).
I laddering at fifa the past 3 years, if I took seriously my inbox everytime someone sais something insulting or crazy to me, I would have gone mental by nowSniper Team 4 said:The next morning I turn on my PS3 and I have a message. Wait just one minute... There are RPGs like that?!number2301 said:Equally there's no particular reason to pick a male model. Having said that, I wouldn't take a female avatar in deathmatch. I would find that a bit odd.
RPGs though, I'm all up in that shit. Not quite sure why but it sure as hell isn't to be pervy. I Maybe I like seeing a female as a strong, fleshed out main character?
Erm, yes? I'm mainly thinking of ME and ME2.katsumoto03 said:Wait just one minute... There are RPGs like that?!number2301 said:Equally there's no particular reason to pick a male model. No. I was saying that there really is no reason to play a female character in a multiplayer shooter unless you're female yourself.Rosetta said:Would you rather I asked: "Could you please explain the last sentence?"katsumoto03 said:Low content post is low content.

Yeah, that would have achieved so much more. Christ.
So... the only reason to play as a female (if you're male) in a multiplayer shooter is if they wear skimpy clothes? How... shallow and childish.
Look, buddy, It's an opinion. I never claimed that it was a bad thing, or that I thought people shouldn't do it. I merely said that I thought it was kind of dumb and pointless.Rosetta said:And you think this because?katsumoto03 said:No. I was saying that there really is no reason to play a female character in a multiplayer shooter unless you're female yourself.
Euh claiming something is pointless and dumb (in your opinion(what you more or less stated as a fact)) IS a bad thing.katsumoto03 said:[

Yes, I my opinion is an epic fail. I mean, god forbid I say what I actually feel instead of joining the chorus. I must be out of my mind to think such things!Rosetta said:Your opinion is baseless and you can offer no evidence in support of it.katsumoto03 said:Look, buddy, It's an opinion. That said, let's switch this around. Why do you think it's a good idea, acceptable or whatever the opposite to my argument is?
[sub]C-c-c-combo breaker![/sub]
A failure by any standard.
