So I realized I didn't have the Firestarter achievement in COD [email protected] I've been grinding on it
for days (I say grind because in effect that is what you are doing..in essence it's almost as boring as gold farming for some MMORPGER..)

Here I am,allegedly just "another soldier" yet I am the one tasked with leading the charge and taking out the enemy..There is a endless supply of friendlies..stay in one place and watch a couple of your "team mates" get shot, hear Sgt.Roebuck call "CORPSMAN" or hear Polonsky whine to Roebuck a bunch and suddenly "Pvt.Leopold" becomes "Cpl.Winston" (a cookie for anyone for recognizing the last 2 names)

WHY can't I have team mates with enough balls to NOT get shot? I know war=murder but if you sit in a "safe" place long enough(shrouded from tossed frag grenades) you'll understand what I mean.

Why is it they are armed with "superior" firepower and they never use it? They always seem to let me handle the sumbitch that is within sneezing range of them yet when I need help..they are behind me and usually standing in the frickin way if the enemy lobs a grenade and I am the only one in range of it...also the enemy always manages to throw the grenades so they land at MY feet..no one else..I could have a frickin battalion standing in front of me,all lined up nice and neat and their magic throw lets the grenade land right on me.

I'm tired of the game devs handicapping the player or the friendly AI so when you play on "Realistic" or "Veteran" you basically have a Red Ryder BB gun and the enemy has the equilivant of a 120mm cannon which always manages to hit you and if it hits your foot or god forbid your elbow while you are in cover.. BOOM your dead..however when you are shooting them..even with their own weapons,it takes 3 rifle mags,2 pistol mags of ".50" and running up to them and shanking them 12x in a row so they go down.

I don't think Ubisoft is going to fix the lethality of the SPAS-12 or the FAMAS in the rainbow series which pisses me off..There are way more powerful rifles represented in that game and yet they seem to be as effective as tickling the enemy.

Speaking of effective,I was doing Terrorist Hunt on Villa in RB6V2 and a terrorist NOT wearing body armor of any kind ran up next to me and I was able to hit him IN THE HEAD with a shot from the Desert Eagle (which is supposed to be .50AE) and it just stunned him...WTF is up with that? He stopped and leaned back a little bit and killed me with his SPAS-12 which was STILL POINTED AT THE GOD DAMN ground..

In short,..FUCK the devs who progam the AI for shit. Despite the odds..if you shoot first and the enemy shoots after you,the game balances it towards the enemy's shot hitting and KILLING you.

The team mate AI in frickin GRAW 2 had more sense.

and don't get me started on RB6V2's terrorist spawning..WTF? Does scotty beam them in?

The AI in CoD5 was terrible. I remember how the enemies would always go after me, ignoring my teammates, while my teammates just stood there and let it happen. It was silly but not in a funny way. I played through the campaign once and I don't plan on ever going back.

Halo's was the worst. Friendly AI in that game is HORRIBLE. No wonder why they put co-op in that game.

Enemy AI was cheap thou

To be honest I would rather a game was developed with a stronger emphasis on AI and less on visuals. Not saying I want it butt ugly, but if I had to go for the 'ground breaking' award for either graphic or AI development AI would win every time. Too many games look awesome but don't deliver in the gameplay stakes.

Your right bout R6V2, the AI in that game is horrible. They have way better guns, you can't see them, THEY SNIPE WITH SHOTGUNS, you can't hit an elephant at 10 yards. But there's one thing worse then the enemy AI. The friendly one. Those are some stupid *************. Sometimes, they'd just stand there, me desperatly giving them orders, and I had to run across the map to tap them like a f in babysitter! Made me stop playing.

Agreed. I too believe AI should be one of the things to tackle in the future rather than visuals or the motion controls everybody seems to put their stakes on.

I remember back when Half-Life came out I was wowed by its AI. The US Marines were the smartest opponents I had seen and securty officers made for some pretty reliable and useful allies. It wasn't perfect but it was the best I had seen then and I feel it still stands out as a good example now. I find that in many ways the AI in the sequel is inferior (except for the vortiguant in episode 2). Same goes for many even newer games.

The point is, I think there is something wrong when the example of good AI that stands out the most in my mind is from a game over ten years old.

Yeah I mean there is no point having computer controlled people and environments that look like the real thing when they act like they've had stupidity enemas.

Speaking of a game with good AI that is over 10 years old..I recommend S.W.A.T 3. I picked up the Game of The Year edition about 6 months after that game came out. The 10-David mod community is AWESOME..
For instance, the RTRT weapon mod,you had taped magazines for your first set on the weapon(2xMags taped together) and your elements just took out the empty mag and flipped it around and went back to work. They had the ACOG scopes on some guns and the Aimpoint sights on others.
The fact that you actually could WIN the game without ever having to fire a lethal bullet alone makes it a stand-out game. Maybe you had to hit the suspect 2-3x more with a bean bag round to get them to comply..or use tear gas or a flash bang. What I did like to do is have a team mate open a door and I would be back about 4-6 feet and I would just launch in either a few tear gas shells or a couple of flashbangs and come in yelling POLICE,HANDS WHERE I CAN SEE THEM.
Your team mate AI would enter and clear a room, drop a glow in the dark lightstick when they exited so you knew that the room was clear.
Sometimes the "innocent" civilian was actually hiding a weapon..so you had to arrest everyone on scene that was a suspect, whether they had a gun or not.
The friendly AI was not just someone to stand there and get shot at,they reacted.

You could use a move-able camera on a stick so you could open a door and scan for enemies before entering.

If they re-coded and re-released S.W.A.T 3 for the 360,I'd be first in line to buy it. It would BLOW the shit out of the Rainbow franchise..

Stolen from wikipedia
SWAT 3 received positive reviews, averaging 84% on Game Rankings.[2] Praise was lavished on the graphics, along with the AI of enemies and civilians and team interaction. PC Gamer UK gave the game a score of 91%, saying "All the best ideas from other squad based games, shoehorned into a police setting, perfectly."[3] The game was also reviewed by GameSpot, with a rating of 8.3/10.[4] Gamespot commented "SWAT 3's most impressive feature has to be the amazing artificial intelligence employed by friend and foe alike."
