In honour of controllers lost

I used to bash my Nintendo 64 controller until Donkey Kong wouldn't stop moving to the right of the screen. A vigorous jiggling always solved it, luckily. They don't make 'em like that any more. I remember playing until I got a hideous pain in the palm of my hand.

Hehe. I've never broken a controller, but funnily enough the closest I've ever been is when playing the original Soul Blade on the PSX. The story mode liked to do bollocks like make you fight the last boss when you only had a sliver of health left, or when you were poisoned or something. Then for every failure you'd have the commentator yell "yooooouuuuuuu loooooooooooooooooooooooose", with major emphasis on both the involved words. 'You' because it was you, it was your fault, not the bullshit mechanics of the fight, and 'lose', because that's what just happened, and you might not have noticed unless the commentator rubbed it right in your fucking face. ARRGH. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis.

Not played a good beat-em-up in years... probably a good thing for my stress levels.

I've never broken a controller. I did once punch a throw pillow about four or five times rapidly so hard that I sprained my wrist. Some boss in Red Faction 2 shot me through a wall with a rail gun when I had him at low health. I've since kept my tantrums to the verbal variety.

Dear 8bit Nintendo controller.
We had good times together, but I want you to know that I always hated you. I've never gotten more blisters from anything than when I played Monster Truck Madness with you. Your death is bitter sweet.

Every other controller that I've ever had is still working, though my original PSX controller didn't work right due to wear when I replaced it. It probably still works, but the plastic's likely ruined by now, so it could be considered somewhat dead.

Ive never thrown a controller, I had a friend who did to one of mine. He replaced it and now has to bring his own if he comes around.

Fucking. Shao. Kahn. In the new Mortal Kombat the last fight with him I fucking lost it and smashed my entire fucking room. Just thinking about it is pissing me off.

The rest just died of old age, but not the one, oh that poor controller... and everything else.

Shao Khan can be defeated quite easily. His AI has a bug. If you use Raiden's teleport jump, and uppercut him after he swings or taunts, you can finish the fight without taking nary a blow.

Of course if you want to fight him straight up, use Raiden's Charge punch combo where he lifts you up and shocks you at the end. Shao Khan hardly ever evades or blocks it, and if he's up in the air, simply use raidens back back forward kick special, and continue the lulz.

OT:
Star Ocean: Til the End of Time. The fight with that little pixie bastard in the volcano. I lost 2 controllers to that game. Still a good game, and i still play it every now and again.

Soul Calibur 4. Was playing online on a friends Xbox 360, someone was clearly using a modded controller as Siegfried can't spin like a bloody top no matter how fast you input the combo. He then proceeds to glitch the boundaries of the stage and throws me out. Ring out.
Yeah, i smashed the remote. Hard. No worries as i had an xbox too at the time and gave him one of my paddles.
And a guitar hero guitar.
I had a spare.
Don't look at me like that.

I've had two PS2 controllers have their left analouge stick loosen and swirl around now. Racing is impossible and shooters make my thumb slide off Also I have a PS3 controller with an R2 button with a broken spring. It's always pushed in now, and I had to retire it while playing inFamous 2.

I think I only have one SNES controller that still works. The other ones were destroyed by my obsessive playing of the Mega Man X series. I used to bind dash to the R button(which makes it really easy to abuse the dash feature) so that button got the crap kicked out of it. The same thing happened with my PSX controller from X4-5.

I don't think any of my N64 controllers still work. Those things were easy to break though.

It's funny thinking about how much abuse the controllers went through for my older consoles, and still worked. Meanwhile, I can't buy an Xbox 360 controller that isn't already broken out of the box.

The only thing I ever broke in that area was a Gameboy Advanced. I don't know what it was that was able to piss me off enough to make me slam it against the foot of my bed, but I immediately realized how stupid of me it was.

Well, I killed 2 "BigBen" (third party) GameCube controllers. They were cheap anyhow. Never broke an original one to date though. Got all my Nintendo Controllers (N64, GC, Wii) and my Xbox ones fully functional.

Who knows where to buy gamecube controllers?

After my two third party ones died, I got two original Nintendo ones on eBay. Their not cheap though, quality has its price in this case I'm afraid. Make sure its specified that its a Nintendo one though. I see several ones that look exactly alike (except the GameCube logo), but are much cheaper. I doubt the quality is the same.

The only controllers I've ever lost were for the Nintendo 64.

If you've ever played the original Mario Party, you know exactly what happened to those flimsy thumbsticks.

Yep, I'd say that sounds about right. I believe I ended up sacrificing a controller to SC: IV.

Been a while since I've broken a controller, pretty much every one of them has been for the 360.

I think one of the Assassin's Creed games claimed one. SC: IV - as I mentioned - got another. I've even chucked one out the window, but I forget which game I was playing. Dark Souls tried to claim another one, but I had only rented the game and decided it'd be best to simply return it (about 2 hours after renting it ) rather than bust a controller for it.

Its weird, I never found Soul Calibur 4 that bad, except for Tower of Souls, but that was an optional mode. Soul Calibur 5 though just pissed me off immensely , mainly because it has all this bullshit juggling (far worse than Tekken ever was) and if I fuck up once, I lose half my damn health bar. Fuck you Nightmare and fuck you Elysium and your bullshit Super move that takes away a quarter of my health whilst im on the damn ground

Heh, apparently you didn't try playing SC: IV online...inevitablly you'll get paired up against someone who has a single cheap move that they spam until you're dead. The fight that made me break my controller was against someone playing Taki. She had this quick little dagger swipe at your ankles, it causes you to stumble for a moment, completely defenseless. By the time you recover, the "cooldown" (for lack of a better term) on Taki's ankle-swipe is up and she just does it again...effectively stun-locking you.

The only way out of it is to pull off one of those perfectly timed blocks where the little shield-bubble pops up around you...and I couldn't do one of those on a consistant basis even if you paid me.

I got to see the same thing (One Cheap Move To Rule Them All) happen to a buddy of mine who had the game for PS3. I could be wrong about the exact move since it's been years since I played that game, but Vader had this unblockable, unstoppable combo where (I think) he force-choke slams you into the ground, force-pulls you back to your feet with you stunned for a moment, then force-choke slams you again. That might not be the exact move, but I do remember it was a ground slam-pull up-ground slam-repeat combo that was so ridiculously broken it wasn't even funny to watch.

Edit:
The best, though, was Spawn in SC: III. Equip him with the weapon that does a lot of damage but deals damage to you with each attack. He had a charged fireball attack that became an insta-kill if he was using that weapon, even if the opponent has full life. :3

I've had the same KB+M for about ten years now. Never broken on me. Reliable and faithful control items that I am completely adjusted to, and am hesitating over replacing for better models next year, but I'll figure that out next year too.

My dad once tripped over a Dualshock 2 controller. Broke it into a million pieces. I didn't even think that was possible. I've also had several controllers die over the years due to the wires breaking (not completely, but inside the insulation enough that it couldn't make a connection anymore.) My little sister also chewed a few up when she was a very small child.
