I will always remember him mainly for his role in Sharpe. His character was amazing (a complete bastard), but just awe-inspiring.
Ninja'd. His role in Sharpe was just so much fun to hate.

Always wanted to do a portrait [http://artbyruben.blogspot.com/2010/11/beautiful-people.html] of him. Guess I'll have to, now. Rest in peace man.

You mention AeonFlux and yet leave out his wonderful, memorable role in Dragonheart? Come on!

Rest in peace, Mr Postlethwaite. I'll now pay my respects by watching Dragonheart. You will always be kindly Brother Gilbert to me.

:D

We have lost one of the best- though I guess this does explain his rather small, limited roll in Inception

He was one of my favourite actors of all time, I especially loved him in Sharpe as Hakeswill - he was an awesome baddie!

Well this made me really sad when I read about it on BBC News this morning - a sad start to the day.

R.I.P. :'(

my reaction:

he might not of been as well known as other actors, but god damnit, HE WAS MEMORABLE!
Mine too, I only knew him from a few roles, the biggest being his roles in Brassed Off and Age of Stupidity but he was a face I instantly recognised whenever I saw it.

The man was a fantastic actor, from my early childhood where he was the guy who gave James the bag, to his minor role in Inception, and his brilliant performance in Brassed Off. Postlethwaite was a brilliant actor, and shall be missed.

Definitely. As Hakeswill in Sharpe, he's the only villain in any media that I've ever hated. Takes a great actor to really make you feel something.

RIP Pete, always brilliant in my eyes.

My mum personally knew him and told me about this. I didn't realise that he had such an impressive repertoire until I looked it up.

RIP

Damnit. People really need to stop dying. This past month has been rife with it.

My condolences to his family.

Smooth Saling Roland Tembo, the only guy who was convinced he was on an island with Dinosaurs in The Lost World.

I loved this guy, shame to see him go.
