If there's one thing I never understood in the gaming world is how people seem to not make any sense at all regarding their "stance" on issues. They just can't seem to decide what the hell do they want...

Why is it that we have Counter Strike servers that enforce a strict "no swear rule" because of "minors playing the game"? What's the logic behind THAT? It's perfectly ok for a minor to spend 3 hours in a row playing a game where he kills his fellow man without blinking, but god forbid he'll have to be "exposed" to words like "fuck" or "slut", words NOBODY has EVER heard since they joined school. So the child's mature enough to handle murder but god forbid he's expose to WORDS.

Why do we have people constantly griping about blood and gore in movies and videogames? Is it really better if your kid thinks swinging a machete at full speed at his friend's face will do nothing but a slashing sound and knock him down for 20 seconds?

Why is sex such a huge deal when violence is accepted as quintessential to games today? Is a video depicting a part (or parts) of perfectly normal human anatomy every healthy human will see at some point, worst to a kid's development than pretending he's an assassin?

What's the logic behind these kind of things? As much as I twist and turn to try to wrap my brain around it, I can't...

Personally I think education is the answer, not censorship, as all censorship does is breath ignorance and interest in the subject... But regardless... It's just...incongruous... If you accept that brutalizing your fellow man with a variety of house hold objects is perfectly acceptable, how can you, in your right mind, consider blood to suddenly be inappropriate?

I can't make sense of this...and it happens a lot...Am I the only one to think these people are all hypocrites...or just insane?

tl:dr : People don't make any damn sense. Discuss.

I'd contribute, but you kind of covered every valid point.

Thats right, you just started and exhausted a thread in 1 post.

100,000xp to you.

Gonna have to agree with you on ever point there OP. I've got no problem with server admins enforcing a 'no swearing' policy. As it could just be that they themselves don't like hearing the words (I personally think it's odd that someone could be fine with excessive violence but be offended by words, but I try to respect everyone's opinions) but when they say it's because of children on the server it annoys me. Every kid knows the words, and he's probably the one saying them the most.

"You can say 'fuck you', but you can't say it directly after 'I want to'... unless you say 'I want to fuck you up', but you can't say 'I want to fuck you up the ass'." - Steve Hofstetter

Or something like that.

Something like this, but in real world. I went to this horrible, disgustingly chavvy commercial club called Mercy in Norwich. Inside, they had a big screen you could text messages to, and they'd be displayed for your friends. Obivously people were texting things like 'I can't wait to get you and blank your blank.' And that was how they did it. A club, that I showed my ID to get into, so clearly no minors, blanked the swearing. It was still clear how obscene some of the texts were though. There was some scary shit...

Ironically, on XBox Live at least, it is usually the younger kids who I hear most frequently uttering highly questionable invective related to race, mothers, gender, sexuality, bestiality, incest, renal openings, biological discharges, and any infinite combination thereof.

Adults seem to utter the odd "FSCK!" but the kids just let loose with the stuff as a form of conversation.
