Hey everyone. I was just reading up on Indie music, and I was wondering; "What's the Escapist's view on Indie, and Indie-Metal specifically?".

I myself, support Indie - as it's for the most part 'Real' music. I say that because it's (for the most part) free from corporate influence and shows what the artists REALLY want to say and sing about, not what the label wants or allows.

I go to local shows all the time. Living in Seattle, it's pretty easy to find a decent show every weekend.

I don't go out of my way to look for indie music but if it sounds good, I'll like it.

However, I strongly dislike the hipster trend that everything that isn't indie somehow sucks. Aw man, they signed a label? Sellouts, dawg! Unless their songs were about fighting the corporates or something, I don't understand this argument.

My only real beef with indie music is that, while it originally sounded unique and, well, original, the sound has been copied over and over again by everyone who can play an acoustic guitar and has listened to a Neutral Milk Hotel album that its become so generic and up its own ass, I can barely tolerate it anymore. And don't get me started on its typical fanbase...

I'll listen to an Olivia Tremor Control album, or a Cloud Cult album every once and awhile, but aside from that, I generally pass over the genre.

Indie metal is a little different than indie rock for me. Indie metal isn't in every independent film these days, so it generally doesn't get as much over-exposure, which keeps it fresher.

Ugh, I know! I hate hipsters too. I Don't go lookin' for Indie either, I just look for good music.

I was just sayin' "Good on ya!" to all the Indie-Metal bands really, cause I support them a lot. Cause for metal artists, finding a LABEL is hard. Just imagine how hard it would be to be succesful as an Indie-Metal band!

So, um... Yeah, lol

Indie metal just means independent metal bands. Bands not on labels.

"indie" anything is gay.

It brings to mind pictures of some art school dildo with a beard who is trying to run Slsk on a mac in order to download scat movies set to Decemberist songs.

I like to see bands self produce albums. I refuse to call it "indie-metal" that gives people the wrong idea. I would prefer every bands to independently produce it's stuff, it lets them have a little more freedom to experiment, and they can distribute the music however they want. Less money to publishers and more to artists.
