Doc, when it's all said and done I will glady challenge you to a one-on-one first annual chromatic-tathalon of vivid colorotismopoly. (For added coolness, the competition will be held on Jupiter's largest moon.) I'm bettin' that my colors are more vivid than yours. I am colorblind, so there are no subtle hues to anything I do. ...And gradient fills be damned!
You should make some Gears of War art then, see if you can take the brown-and-gritty colour scheme down :p

Phew, that pencil test is awesome. I'm not very good at animation myself because I'm way OCD about anatomy and such, but right now I'm doing lineart over someone's animation rough keyframe sketches (sorry I don't really know animation lingo). So... yes it takes forever, but I could see doing 15 seconds a day of just certain task. When I started doing this sort of stuff it took me about 15 or 20 minutes just to do one frame but now it probably would take me 5 minutes to do the same exact frames... so if you ever want to get faster at drawing go do some animation stuff :D

I believe this contest is already settled.

Bah, considering we don't know what was actully entered in the contest It's hard to say. Plus we don't know how many people entered either. All we know is some of the peoples work who have been kind enough to submit a sample of something simmular. Besides, I liked the second comic better. :)

I enjoyed the second comic more, too. While the first one is actually pretty inclusive in terms of humour, you could substitute so many people from videogames or otherwise into the first one that it actually comes across as a little generic to me. (just in terms of humour)

The second is more the kind of nuanced, yet humorous insight that you find in Penny Arcade. And while people may go "Bah!" whenever someone mentions Penny Arcade, their format is powerful when it's executed correctly. Dropping iconic characters into surprising real-world scenarios in order to make an observation on the game rather than an observation on Real Life&trade is part of what Tycho and Gabe do best.

The second strip is all kinds of magnificent from that aspect (in my opinion, anyway) and has the style to back it up. How many other pathologically dour 'badass' characters could you chuck in there? First up for me would be post-Sands of Time Prince (i.e. of Persia ;)).

As to the contest being settled already... well, I hope that's not case. I'm sure many people would like to think they still have a fighting chance. But screw those losers -- go Team Me, baby!

Something just came to my attention that I never thought of before. Are there any country restrictions? I'm assuming the Escapist is operated out of the States, but I bet many of the contestants are from elsewhere. I don't remember them mentioning anything about it but has anyone heard if there are any restrictions on where you are from?

I'm pretty sure it's been said that international participation is welcomed.

By the way, just a thought here, but I've seen a lot of you talking about using your submissions anyway if you don't win, and some talk of doing a comic jam or whatever... wouldn't it be an idea to start a collective site? I mean all the entries will be involving gaming/ gaming culture anyway so there's some common ground there, could be cool for people to have one hub to go to whenever they want a dose of gaming humor. I've no idea if this has been done or not, but it seems like a nifty idea? You could even spin off of the contest, called it Rejected Escape or something ;)
Ha~ That actually sounds like a fun idea XD

If you want some insight onto how the comic contest judging is going, you can read Shamus' blog to find out, he posted about it.

He says how many entries came in too, I won't state it here so not to make anyone's head explode, but if you're curious take a look.

Sooo...346 contestants? Not that much for an international competition. That's why I made my strip with less talk and more portrayals of variety pertaining to angst, satire and action.(Goes to pray in the church where Eddie Brock went to.)

Thank you for that. Knowing that my entry is already doing something to separate itself from the crowd had given my confidence another boost.

Good thing I found something to hurt my confidence along the way, or I might be floating off to Mars right now. And then die in the crater I create when I come crashing down to Earth when I loose.

YES YES YES!!!! My comic is almost anti two guys on a couch playing games I HAVE A CHANCE!!!!
My comic often makes references to literature but ends up winding back towards games. Plus its not even two dumb guys its about two intelligent kids one a boy and one a girl. I rocked the boat and I might even splash magnificently into the waters of fame and fortune.

While the due date draws nearer for the announcement of the winner, I would just like to say how much I love the escapist, and I think that all of the staff are wonderful people, who deserve to have their names sung to the highest heights.

No reason, I just felt like saying it...

Dear Escapist,

Me so ***rny me make love long time!

Most of us like the escapist and have the achievements to prove it so I don't think sucking up will help, unless there's another kind of sucking they want. Wink Wink.
Just kidding sorta

I see your intelligent kids and raise you...well, I'd tell you what I'd raise you, except I don't want to risk saying too much about my comic. But it's definitely something I could raise the stakes with!

Ha but my kids are full of adorable cuteness. That and I used different styles for some of my comics that fit the mood including crime noir. I appeal to an intelligent audience of both genders with silly jokes mixed in for the broader demographic.

Ya know what this large thread about the webcomic contest needs, its own webcomic strip about the webcomic contest.

I got bored after work so I did a quick sketch.

So most of them were two gamers on a couch type thing? Well, I think that might increase my chances then. Heck, my initial idea, if I was going to do a plot based one would have started off similar to that. But then I decided to do a 'gag based' one, in the same vein of something like random one shot comics making fun of games.

Quick Edit- The comic above wins this thread... well, there have been a few other thread winners, but that is a contender.
