What do you think should be an industry standard that all developers should have to adhere to?
The thing that got me thinking about this is very poor endings to games. Things like huge cliffhangers, or the fact you got nowhere, or the ending is just plain bullshit.
My industry standard for games would be that every single game would have to have an ending to the story that made sense, and brought closure to that particular story. Thats not to say you can't have a sequel, i enjoy a good sequel (AC 2/BH, ME2, various Halo games) as much as the next guy, but when i play a game i want closure.
This is especially bad in a game that doesn't perform well and therefore probably won't get a sequel. I just finished off playing through Splatterhouse, and like Yahtzee said, there is zero closure. Just leaves on a massive cliffhanger with no way of knowing if there will ever be a Splatterhouse 2.
There is nothing i hate more than a poor ending, and so many games nowadays have them. Bulletstorm, Bionic Commando, Splatterhouse, ME2 to a degree. Theres no need for it. Just because you closed the story of the first game, doesn't mean no one will buy your next game.
Anywho, what would you like set as a industry standard.
