Infamous 2nd Son & First Light: Which to play first?

Pretty straightforward. A buddy of mine picked up 2nd Son on discount the other day, and I'm a huge fan of the Sucker Punch game line, so we started playing it. His roommate mentioned First Light, which I had known about, but he said it was a prequel to 2nd Son.

First question:
Is this correct? That inFamous: First Light is a prequel to 2nd Son?

Second Question:
If yes to question 1, should I play First Light first? Do I miss any subtle context with 2nd Son because I didn't play First Light? Or does it really matter at all?

Yes. Sort of.

First Light takes place chronologically before Second Son. It expands on the backstory of a sidekick character from Second Son. You play as said sidekick. The main character of Second Son does not appear in First Light.

It doesn't really matter. You won't miss anything by playing Second Son first.

In fact, First Light kinda-sorta contradicts a part of Second Son. It's a bit vague and my memories have faded, but you'll probably know it when you see it.

I would suggest starting with First Light. However that's just because I don't like following up a main dish with something that feels like an appetizer. It's like watching a teaser trailer for a movie that you just finished watching in full. If that doesn't bother you then you might as well just flip a coin.

Ok, I'll play First Light first. Thanks guys/gals/gender non-specific entities.

Side question, and please avoid spoilers if you can and still answer the question:

Is this in the same timeline as inFamous 1 & 2? Because it hasn't made any mention of the previous events, and me and my friend were puzzling over it. He theorized that it's an alternate timeline/universe, because in Second Son, they actually use a real city name, instead of making up fake names like Empire City, and New Marais, instead of New York, and New Orleans. And that actually has some weight to it. That they just said "fuck it, we want to keep making games with this basic concept, and game mechanics, but we wrote ourselves into a corner with the end of inFamous 2, so...alternate timeline!"

Do they actually explain why conduits are still a thing? Or is it just left totally vague.

Again, please just answer yes/no, if you can, or elaborate but without spoilers if possible. Thanks xD

In short, yes it is the same timeline as Infamous 1 and 2. The game does kind of explain things away as to why there are still conduits, but I can't really go into it because spoilers. There are some references to Cole and Zeke in the game too if my memory is correct. There is also some dlc that apparently explains what happened after Coles sacrifice in 2, but couldn't tell you if it is any good or not because I haven't played it yet, that will have to wait until my evil playthrough of Second Son.

Cool, thanks for the clarification. Is the DLC you mention the First Light game itself? Or some other DLC? And if it's another DLC, which title is the DLC for?
