How convenient that you seem to be forgetting about the other 1/4 oz of pot that he was caught with. Plus you have to consider that they use the street value of the drugs taken and not the amount that medical clinics charge for it.
HAHA - that HUGE amount of 1/4oz!

It amounts to 7 grams. Do you know what the 'street value' even is on pot? It's $10 a gram ON THE HIGH END. Its usually less. That's like nothing. Its what an average personal smoker buys for a week.

You should also know that an average small plastic sandwich baggie weighs almost a gram (just weighed one, it's .9 grams actually). Triple that weight(at least) if he was holding it in a ziplock. The cops ALWAYS weigh the baggie as well. So we're probably really only looking at 40-50 bucks worth of weed here (in a sandwich bag, mor elike only 20-30 in a ziplock). You realize these cops decided a chocolate ball was worth $800 bucks based on weight? That doesn't strike you as just a tad completely ridiculous?

I don't particularly like this guy, but c'mon. After all the shit this guy goes through, he gets busted for smoking them tweeds?

That sucks. For once, I'm on his side.
Al Capone got busted for tax evasion and O.J. Simpson is in prison for assault (I think). Some people dodge bullets only to be hit by a shovel.
I thought OJ was in prison for stealing his own memorabilia from a sports museum or something like that. :p That might be a previous charge though.

Kinda sad the money that will be wasted on this "felony bust" after everything is all said and done they will hit him with the biggest fees they can just to make up for the low cost of the actual crime.

Lol. The sad part is people are probably going to give him support simply because of who he is.
As in, he doesn't deserve any support? The whole drug war thing in the US is so retarded it blows my mind.
No, he deserves support from his friends, family, lawyers, etc. The support I am criticizing is what he will inevitably get from the internet community at large. He committed a crime, he'll plead his case and he'll pay for it if found guilty. I know the internet will find a way to make this more complicated than it should be.

Because the difference between $15 dollars and maybe $150 (if prices are high in your area) is huge.... it just happens that he got caught in a crappy state. In Ny this wouldn't even be a misdemeanor, it would be a civil citation and fine of about $100.

Ah Texas and their backward laws. The fact that cannabis is still illegal in the 21st century is a fracking travesty. Good waste of taxpayer money right there. Now maybe that sherrif can go bust some real criminals.

See, when it comes to whether or not someone deserves support or not, I look at it from the perspective of "Did he do something wrong?", not "Did he break any laws?", because everyone who doesn't live in a bubble of one's own home knows that there are some frickin' stupid or downright wrong laws out there. See the War on drugs [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_on_drugs].

That said, I've little personal investment with Geohot(z?), the main reason I'm commenting is the sad fact that people are getting incarcerated for what amounts to bloody nothing. Geohot or not, people who get in this situation deserve support.
See that's a stance I can get behind. I was being critical of people supporting him because of who he is, not because of what he did.

Fun fact: I was part of a jury selection a few weeks back for a drug case and when they asked the question, "Do you think marijuana should be legalized?" I didn't raise my hand because I thought it was a trap :p

it is a trap, assuming (and IANAL) that they are screening for the same thing when they ask whether you support the death penalty in any case. They will disqualify you based on how you answer if the death penalty is in play.

My strategy was to be as anonymous as possible and answer as few questions as was necessary so that when the lawyers discussed who they wanted and didn't want they wouldn't even remember who I was. It worked!

LOL!

Can't say that I'm totally surprised by this, and of all the things he could've gotten nailed for, it was the sweet leaf.

I wonder if he owns a map because he seriously should've known better since he was clearly not in California anymore.

Finally Texas does something with the law worthy of praise. Is it too late to repeal the death sentence for the mentally handicapped? Darn. Let's see how he hacks his way out of a night in the pokey with Jim-Billy Jones, serial molester.

Most white kids don't expect their cars to be searched, especially not by dogs I've driven through states with more then that, with no worries. He was quite possibly in one of the worst areas in the country for this to happen in =/

I can't really remember this Geohot guy, but I'm sorry he got tripped up by those annoying social conservatives.
