Infinity isn't a threat to EVE. They're completely different fanbases. Infinity is catering to the people who just want to blow shit up, while EVE is much slower paced. Many EVE players HATE Infinity's fighting mechanics while many Infinity fans absolutely HATE EVE's point-and-click interface. I think Infinity is like the spiritual successor to Elite, while EVE has gone off and done something completely different.
I'd like to add that Infinity is better for people who want to explore the uncharted areas of the universe, set up colonies, and build empires. I mean sure, EVE has the sovereignty system and now it's got wormholes, but it doesn't have much uncharted space since Wormhole space is not a place you'd want to set up a POS in. In fact, I think it's impossible to set up a POS in wormhole space due to how cut off your station would be from the rest of the known universe. Refueling would be a nightmare. Although, CCP will be adding planetary colonization, actual uncharted space, and some kind of joystick control for smaller ships in the future. At least that's what they've been talking about and hinting towards at their most recent fanfests. So if CCP really is working on all that stuff, then Infinity had better come out before CCP finishes with all of that or else Infinity won't have a chance.
