Heya all.

While recently browsing for a new game to try i came across ArmA 2 and it looked interesting.
As i have been wanting a more tactical based shooter i am thinking of getting it, but after reading some reviews there is a frequent complaint about bug issues.

So if there is anyone who still plays this game what is is it like now. have the bugs been fixed or are they still a problem

Any other similar games suggestions would be good as well. (PC/360, dont have PS3..yet)

Thanks for any input

There are a wide variety of bugs, most concerning AI, however none of them are game breaking and it is a worthy buy.

Edit: Almost all the game breaking bugs have been fixed

There are indeed a big amount of bugs, but the atmoshpere of that game is unreal. Takes a while to get into, because of adepting to the communication and button mapping (the amount is rather LARGE.) And you better have a good PC because it'll eat your CPU alive. In the end it'll be worth it.

The game is very good and many people play it.
AI is a bit meh but the visuals (not graphics but that maybe also) are great.
As if you are really there :O
But the game is also rather hard the first few times :O

As of other similar games...
I can only think of the older "Operation Flashpoint"'s.
Dragon Rising also a bit but don't ever buy Red River. it is so...much more meh if you then the others in freedom and such.
Or if you Like Brothers in Arms then Red River "might" be also nice for you.

But you can't compare them to Arma 2 of course :3

I've never noticed any major bugs, the AI can be a bit thick sometimes, bu that's due to it being completely unscripted.

Single player is pretty rough and for the PC there are like 80ish people that play it online? Can't say I recommend it. I felt that Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising was a better title.

It was on sale on steam for 8 bucks though, so if you really want to just try a milsim thats about as cheap as you can hope for. OFP:DR is 20 bucks I think. The epitome of these games was the original operation flashpoint IMO though, maybe see if you can't find that one somewhere (if you can look past some 2000 graphics).

I'm planning on buying it as soon as I get a new PC, which is soon. What's the online community like? Also, original or expansion?

After finding myself purchasing the game by recommendation from two friends and instantly trying it out with another friend online in a 'Warfare' mod, my first reaction was plain rage at how bad I sucked and had no clue on what to do. Then I bought the Operation Arrowhead standalone expansion and got back to the Warfare and actually learned how to play it. And it is bloody awesome once you get the hang of it.

Bugwise, there aren't too many, the AI is stupid at times but that's to be expected, a number of 'bugs' can be plainly explained by the amount of realism in the game, but so far, with about ten hours behind me in the game, there's nothing game-breaking bugwise and with a few friends the game's nothing short of great fun.

If you play online, I suggest always going for a Warfare server. It doesn't require as many human players as changeable difficulty provides good challenge on the hardest slider settings.
