Information in the Information Age

Recently I came across a couple of off-hand comments that got me thinking. The first flippantly said they couldn't be bothered to read up on a complex subject unless someone made it into a power-point presentation for them. The second commented that they only skimmed the articles that the OP had put up as their evidence. As far as I could tell, both were meant with humor.

However, I found myself wondering: In this information age, have we come to the point where we have so much information to deal with that we don't bother deeply reading things anymore? Is our time so filled that we only skim things, ignore it if it can't be compressed into bullet-points, or summarized in sound bites?

So I ask you, dear gentle souls of the Escapist, is this truly the case for most of us?

Or am I just an old curmudgeon sitting in Darwin's waiting room grumbling about how the world has changed on me while I wasn't looking?

I only skimmed what you said, but from what I understood, Powerpoint presentations are good things and it would be much more beneficial if you would have given us one for your OP as I would have had a much easier time understanding you.

A full sentence is way over my head; I'm going to need you to break that down into a few bite-sized chunks. Eliminate the verbs, if possible.

Nice troll

I think that since we have various brain expanders we don't need to read as deeply because if we need the information again we can simply go into our history to look up the information again.

Okay!

Powerpoints good. Jot-notes good. Long paragraphs bad. People lazy.

We good now?

Y'know what? This is still a bit of a headache. If you could come over to my place of residence and explain your post with an elaborate puppet show, I'd really appreciate it.
