So I recently started playing Final Fantasy VII again. Don't ask why, I just felt like it. And today I went into a local game/movies/music trading place and what did I see in the glass case near the register (used for the more top-shelf items) but a non-greatest hits version of Final Fantasy VII... going for $75.

Whaa?

$75?!?

Is this game REALLY that rare now? Seventy-five dollars?!?

So I checked Ebay... A reliable source for what people will buy things for, yes? It's selling for nearly that much on there, too!

Am I in an alternate universe here? Wasn't that game pretty ubiquitous like six years ago? Everyone had a copy, right? There is no reason that game should be so expensive yet!

So I guess my big question is this: What the hell, man? Has anyone else noticed this?

I once had some 16 year old friends of my sister's offer to buy my original, still-highly-functional gray and black NES, with two controllers, Gamepad and Mario/Duckhunt, for $400. And that was, like, 5 years ago. For two weeks the four of them kept coming over to play Excite Bike. My mom had to eventually ban them from coming over.

People have really short memories, and hindsight makes everything rosier. I can tell you I certainly didn't think Goldeneye was the "gr8est thang evarr" back when it first came out. Of course I wouldn't pay for it now, even if it has become so "iconic." Game play was great, sure. But it's painful to look at.

I'd Believe that someone would pay that much for a non- greatest hits version. I've payed double in a couple cases to avoid the stupid little green or red bars across my games. plus people will pay good money for older games. once saw a copy of Symphony of the night for over $500(American) and i was pissed i couldn't afford it.

I've seen the PC versions go up to $100. They were in mint condition though.

That's just stupid.

I'm sorry, but I cannot accept any other adjetive.

That'd look better if you hadn't typo'd "adjective" :) However I echo your sentiments. Bloody hell guys, just pirate the bloody thing already. There's literally dozens of torrents of it floating around on the internet. Both in PSX and PC format.

I remember finding FFIV (Super Nintendo) in a game shop for its original price (I paid $65 because I had never beaten the game at the time). As usual, if someone wants it bad enough, prices will go up.

By the way, I have started FFVII again (one of my students wanting me to arrange a couple of trumpet solos for him)...we'll see if my original opinions on the game hold water or not.

Seriously??

I found a copy of Symphony, in decent condition, at a Gamestop a few years back... $25. Non greatest hits, too.

Just goes to show what you can find if you keep your eyes open, eh?

I saw legend of Dragoon at gametraders for $120. Why would someone ever pay that much for a PS1 game?

If you're anything like me, probably not. It wasn't nearly as good as I remember it being when I played it again.

Eh, if any game is worth it.

Incidentally, by the way, FF8 and FF9 are both readily available in new runs, but FF7 isn't - WTF? My guess is this might be a ploy to deliberately create shortages, then unleash a slew of copies onto the market prior to the next big FF7-themed release (i.e. an FF7 remake, another film, a major spin-off, etc).

One of the reasons that the game would be so expensive these days is most likely because they aren't printing any more discs, and the existing discs will gradually wear down over time. I know I had to hunt down another copy because mine got scratched somehow and just wouldn't go past a certain cutscene.

I played GoldenEye (one of my favorite games) recently and, I'd say, rather than rose-tinted I needed medicated glasses to pull off some of my old long distance shots. The graphics haven't aged well but the gameplay is sound.

Final Fantasy, which I also revisited this year, suffers from the same problems - graphics and speed.

Wasn't there supposed to be an updated remake or was it just a tech demo?

That I'd pay for.

Right infront of me now, I can see my mint condition 'Big-box' version on FFVII on the PC, still including the manual, and random competition leaflets that came with it.

Mentioned it to a mate who works at one of the local game shops, and he's had people coming in 2-3 times a week for months just looking for a copy of the PC version and willing to pay nearly anything for it.

Lucky for me I got it as a buy it now on ebay for a little over a fiver + postage last summer, well worth the investment the way the price is going up.

Then again I do collect a few random things off ebay like my mint condition imported PocketStation with some hand written (badly) translated instructions from someone(?). The time I bought that, that was the first time I had actually seen one for sale anywhere. And being the only person I knew that could play the 'Chocobo world' part of FFVIII was rather cool :D
