Have you ever seen that guy who posts about 'How MUCH I LOVE Puppies!'(fictional example), which gains 200 or so posts, and then seen the inevidible 'What kind of puppies do you like?' thread pop up? Basically what I'm saying is that someone has a topic (puppies in this case) and someone blatantly rips off the success of that post by created an "inspired" thread in an attempt to gain success(?) for themselves.

Have you ever noticed this? Or done it yourself?

No I don't do spin off posts. I find it to be lacking originality and indicative of a low post user.

I have noticed it. They are basically hoping to capitalize in the previous threads success. If lots of people commented on the first thread, the person may think they are now likely to comment on a thread with a similar topic. At least, that's what I believe the psychology behind it is.

As for me, no, I've never done such a thing.

I do it all the time. I'm trying to get the next "Fire" badge so I create piggyback threads often (I always make sure I like to the original and credit its OP). I know it's a bad thing to do but I want that badge!

Meh. It happens sometimes, but that's only really if the conversation has a way of branching out but it's not being picked up on. What does irk me, however, is when one person makes a ton of shitty threads about the same thing, and spams the boards that way. To use the 4chan term, they're often ''newfags'', and they get weeded out pretty quickly, but there's usually an entire day's worth of "I like Pokemon!" "Do you like Pokemon?" "What kind of Pokemon do you like?" "What's your Pokemon team?" threads bumping around together. A recent example was that guy a couple of days ago spamming threads about the PS3 sucking and the Xbox being the best console EVARRR, but he's been suspended or something, so, as usual, he'll probably either not come back, come back but lurk for a long time, fading into obscurity, or come back as a normal forumgoer. It seems to be the way these things go, so just sit back and let things play out, really.

I see it from time to time. It can be annoying, but sometimes it leads to some interesting conversations.

Never done it myself though.
