This is my first review, so try to bear with me.
Call of Duty 4 is the latest instalment to the CoD series, all of which i have enjoyed up to this point. So i went out and dropped a few dollars and bought CoD4 (several months ago, of course) for the Xbox 360. Needless to say, CoD4 did not fail to impress. Infact, it didnt fail to make me shit myself in awe of its uber sexiness and amazing gameplay.
CoD4 is an outstanding FPS that has a great storyline. The stuck up Americans charge into a foreign country with guns blazing, while the Brits (woot!) take the smarter (and much more fun) route of stealth and guile. They are both fighting terrorists of the same sort, all led by leaders whos names are all too similar to tell apart. But enough of the story. We dont play war games for story, we play them so we can blow Arab's lower torsos off with a high powered assult rifle!
The gameplay is amazing. The whole time i felt like i was in the action myself. In the intense battle scenes, i always found myself ducking out of the way in real life when a rocket would come whizzing towards my face (often forgetting to duck out of the way in the actual game...)The graphics added to the effect as well. The whole time i actually felt like i was a real US (or British) soldier shooting real bullets out of a real gun at real arabs that sprayed real blood out of their real organs inside of their real bodies (at this point im just trying to be a repetative prick, so thanks for seeing it through). I enjoyed the stealth missions in CoD4 more than the all out battle royal missions because it gave me more of a "im a badass" feeling in the game as we knifed arab pricks who were none the wiser. I found myslef holding my breath in some of the stealth missions, and if i made a noise in real life, i would go prone in game so the arabs wouldnt see me after they "heard" me spill my soda in real life. I felt as if i were in the game the entire time.
Character develpoment was fantastic. Yes, captain Price made yet another appearence in this CoD as the leader of the British S.A.S. I found myself growing attatched to the Brits much more than the Americans, seeing as all the Americans ever said was "Jackson, take point" or "Jackson, throw a flash through the door!" or "Jackson, bend over and unzip..." Woa! Sorry, got a little out of line there. The only American i respected was Sgt. Griggs. He was so epic. Anyway, back to the Brits. My favorite character by far was Gaz. He always knew what to do and he could sure kick ass. So the game completely fell apart for me when (SPOILERS!!!) the end sequence had him being shot in the head as he begged for mercy from that one armed bastard. I couldnt help but watch the single tear run down my face in the relfection of my TV as Gaz's blood flowed out of his skull and on to the unforgiving pavement of the destroyed bridge. I knew at that point Zhakaev had to pay for that shit. I felt so good dropping that prick. (END SPOILERS!!!) But enough about my personal grudges.
All in all, CoD4 is an amazing FPS. Most likely the best ive ever played. (NOTICE: Best FPS, not best GAME. Best game ever played: Zelda OoT). I would give CoD4 a 10/10 and would recommend it to any FPS fan (or game fan for that matter).
Well, thanks for bearing through my first review! Hope you all enjoyed it, and if you didnt, i get the satisfaction of having wasted someones time on my thoughts and opinions.
