I got the fantastic comment of "you're gonna be a fuckin angel when i'm done with you. gonna kill ur ass dead."

my reply? not particularly clever, but: "then i'm gonna haunt the shit out of you until you kill yourself."

there was also: "u fuckin ******. get off dis game, it's for MEN!" (funny fact: person using mic to record this message was either a girl or a very young boy, judging by the voice pitch)

so I replied: "yeah, what are you gonna do if i dont? you gonna punish me? u know id like that " just to really mess with his brain.

I recently (Like, three weeks back) was sent a message from another player during a game of Team Fortress 2 on Xbox.

This Engie's sentry kept getting destroyed by a Spy, so I was pretty much hanging around him, spy checking whenever someone came nearby. I'm still amazed at how bad the Spy was, because he always ran straight for the sentry, and was disguised as a Sniper each time. Around the tenth time I killed him I got a voice message from him. Apparently he was pissed at me for hanging around the sentry and defending it from him, and told me that real players run around. Since by that time there was another Pyro helping me defend, I decided that I should probably help my team get the intelligence, and headed over to the Blu base through the tunnel at the bottom of 2Fort. Where I encountered the same Spy disguised as a Sniper. So of course, I kill him. A few seconds later I get another message from the same guy, this time accusing me of cheating somehow. I write him back telling him that I'm not opening any more messages.

He flips out at that and starts sending me more and more threatening and vulgar messages, none of which I respond to. Eventually, after the thirteenth message he quits the game, although he joined another game I was in the next day and started harassing me again, except this time he was on my team and was following me around insulting me over the mic. It was funny as hell.

Okay I don't have a xbox but I do have a ps3. Like 90% of the games I've played on-line have some function that allows you to mute people talking. Some games even let you mute individual people and considering most of the games I'm thinking of are cross-platform...

I mute them.

I feel that the headset is retarded and pointless in any sort of free for all or otherwise non-team based activity.

Hehe, what I don't understand though...is that all the angry messages are voices? It seems that none of these people can type properly.

It's not really an insult, but I received a message while playing COD 4 saying " Message to all friends and recent players, I have had chicken for dinner, thank you for listening". I can't remember who this was, but he deserves a hug. Usually I get angry messages, I had one was from a northerner for my sniping. (called zxvvzczxccSoniczaxaxaxa) I told him to grow some some and get a life, so he left =p

If i'm not in the mood I just auto ignore everybody.

If I am I respond with trolly random lines like "touché, hombre" or "you made a funneh! :3 ", or "why no happy bunny? ", or "I can understand why you'd feel so misunderstood , would you like to share the ceremonial thermos of tea with me?" until they think i'm some sort of freak not worth talking to.
Reminds me of that awesome line from anchorman "au revoir, numero two!", that's quite funny to use on people who feel angry about losing to you.

I've also developed a bad habit of simply laughing my deep rolling chuckle instead of actually saying anything to anybody half the time :/, so if you're in a vent and you say "learn to aim noob" and all you hear is kinda sinister chuckling then that's me.

Depends on the insult. Some people deserve a merciless juggling of insults. And I have done that before and made a lot of people laugh at them. Other people can simply be addressed matter of factly. And still others will only respond to continued pwnage until the quit.

there was this time I was playing CoD 4, and some guy started calling me out with random insults, bullshit and shit about me being latin and camping*, to which I only assed myself to reply "you can't even begin to fathom the amount of fuck I do not give"

so he just kept on doing it, until I got tired of his shit and began playing with him, and just said "d'awww, who's a good little troll? YOU ARE, yes you are, oh yes you are ^-^", until he just raged out, and it was good, and the people rejoiced

*I was not actually camping, I was sniping, or as the Xfolks say now, "hardscoping" (god the term itself is complete bullshit)

OT: Once this guy started ranting at me because I did bad in a match of COD, and he was using information from my profile to make fun of me. I replied, "And you need to thoroughly search my profile in order to come back at me? Who ends up looking better?"

so of course i broke out the old benefits insult (because he was called taxie brummi and im not nice to anyone like this )

so i sent back: "go and claim your benefits and go to job centre you inbred"

so he sent back " you cheeky fucking twat go fuck your mum"

so i went all perfect grammer on him and said "excuse me sir but i am not any of those titles that you have listed above so please stop"

and his reply was a "yh yh yh yh yh what?"

So to end it i just sent back "that's just what I thought"

For the most part, I just go "meh" from all the whiny insults, such as the times where I beat their asses so hard, they'll respond with a crappy even if the game crashes about how this one time I actually died.

But, for the most obnoxious once, I simply send back a recorded message.
Now, what this recorded message is, is 7 seconds of silence to make them think their headset is on a low. Than they'll be met by the largest fucking scream they will ever hear over Xbox Live, pumped right into their ear.

They aren't as happy afterwards, as you can tell. But so far, no complaints.

How odd.
