So, I like to pride myself on knowing enough about computer components, but I'm a bit confused at the marketing for this product, and would also like reassurance about the entropy of what I want to do with it.

Also, running Windows 8 on a laptop with 4 Gigs of RAM.

What I'm aware of:
- The i5-3230M Dual Core @2.6 GHz chip has the GPU integrated into it
- This should cause a large amount of heat when playing games
- The default dedicated VRAM is 128MB

What I would like to know
- Will playing TF2 at all lowest specs generate enough heat to damage any components?
- On the laptop itself, a sticker said that the VRAM was dynamic and could potentially reach 1 GB, is this A) True? and B) Possible?
- Since the game randomly stutters with a 14 Ping is this hardware lag due to heat or the GPU struggling?
- Can I force the chip to run at 256/512 MB when needed?
- And while I'm pretty sure of this answer, will the heat, if I put enough hours into the game, decrease the life-span/performance of my i5 over time?

Thanks guys :)

The i5-3230m only draws 35w, so heat isn't a big problem. TF2 is an old game and the intel 4000hd more than meets the minimum spec. Ping isn't constant and you can have lag spikes. There are various command console options in TF2 to check fps and ping. Using one these should help narrow down the issue.

I checked those, and after that set everything to medium instead of low, it's defiantly the chip. Why is it underperforming so badly?

Are you playing the game while the laptop is plugged in? Is your laptop set to power conservation mode? If your laptop isn't plugged in, and it's running in power conservation mode, then your CPU and integrated graphics will not run at full power as your power profile is set to try to get the longest battery life possible. Try to set your power profile to 'Balanced' or 'Performance' and see if that helps, be aware it will burn through your battery quicker if you do that, so you may want to be plugged in if you want to play for extended periods.

Thank you, it was set to balanced. I put it up to high performance and the stutters have gotten better. I still see dramatic frame drops, but really rarely now. I assume it's the dynamism working against itself now, since it chops when there are more effects closer to me, and it just doesn't have time to catch up.

Thank you both for your help!
