I was just thinking of an interesting story from my childhood. Most of you probably are familiar with the website gamefaqs.com. Well back when I was in middle school it was called "Sega Sages" or something to the effect.

I recall in middle school there was a good size group of gamers and we often talked about Pokemon, Magic the Gathering, and N64. One of these kids discovered the website and was actually trying to profit by selling the URL of the website.

I always thought it was a horrible thing to do but funny looking back on it.

What amuses me is people that talk about childhood that involves the internet.

The internet was not around in my childhood .... neither were mobile phones.

How did we cope.

How could have have got money by selling the URL or some website... And how is it horrible? I am not familiar with these things, even less so a circa middle school take on these things.
I don't mean him owning the website and selling it... I meant that he knew about it and would try to charge money just to tell people the websites address. He would go on about how this awesome site has detailed info on games and would charge like 5 dollars to tell people the site's address.

Ah yes, the days before Google became the search engine we all know and love today. Remember the days when LiveJournal and Xanga were the hippest things since sliced bread? Hell, what about them BBS's?

That's kind of weird because I remember it being something more like Firepro or Gamewinners.com ... This was back in the early/mid 2000's I believe.

I don't remember LJ being that big but I do remember having a handful of friends use it. I still update mine but nobody on my friend's list has in months, if not years. What the Hell is a Xanga?![/joke]

It might be called "playing and finishing our only new video game no matter how much it sucked."
