I just got an interesting thought.
What if game companies create different games that can be connected to create a new kind of game?
For example:
A company creates an FPS game, a Combat Flight Simulator and an RTS game. In Singleplayer mode, all of these games play the way you'd expect from that kind of game. In multiplayer mode however, besides the usual game modes offered by such games, all of them can be connected to form one borderless game. The RTS players taking the role of field commanders, the CFS players piloting strike craft, and the FPS players as soldiers on the battlefield.
Of course, such a game would require careful balancing and tuning to provide each player with an enjoyable gaming experience and not let the RTS or CFS players sit around for hours before the commander sends them off, but if it works, it might be fun.
