It's a good idea if you ask me. Speak to someone online all the time before you ever meet em, and the only thing you have to go on is 'do I get along with this person?' which is the main reason people seem to break up. On the other hand picking someone up down the pub and chances are you'll only learn 'Do they look good, are they good in bed?'. :p

Dylan Moran made a point in one of his sketches about this, how you wouldn't dare buy a toaster when your drunk, but you'll probably marry someone you met while drunk.

I met my girlfriend on Gaia Online. But let me clear something up. I wasn't one of those people you see on there wandering around asking for a girlfriend. she was someone i was randomly talking to, someone i found to intellectually stimulating, and started talking to over Msn. We came to find out we had a lot in common, and over a period of several months started to like each other. Why is that sad? Because the internet is involved? Well by that logic ANY communication over the internet is sad. Therefor almost everyone in western society is sad.

I wouldn't say pathetic. I also don't think I'd use an internet dating site for fear that the girl I've been set up with would turn out to be a boomer (L4D) as well as male. Some of us are too freaking busy to get out and meet people, so for some, it's probably a good thing.
Lol. A boomer?

On topic. It's like meeting someone through a cold call. It's a way of communicating, but really it should only be for someone you've already met.
