This thread is mostly about This person [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beckii_Cruel] who after being about the millionth person to upload herself dancing on you tube, she became amazingly famous in Japan.

She is 14 and from the UK and has become a sensation in Japan and spreading to other countrys but this really just shows how easy it is to become famous over the internet. After watching the documentary on BBC3 I think she (no offence) doesn't know squat about the internet. She was disturbed about middle aged men being most of her you tube audience (they were NOT middle aged men they are people who said they were middle aged men when they made their you tube account).

Enough shameful advertising, like I said it oddly easy to become famous now and for discussion...

I actually have someone in my school that is somewhat internet famous. Christina Grimmie, if you look her up. Really good singer.

On-topic: It's easier to get famous on the internet than in real life, but it requires lots and lots of luck. You basically have to hope that someone with a lot of twitter followers or something sees your video and spreads the word. From there word of mouth does the rest of the work.

As for normal... normal how, exactly?

Do you think it's easy to get famous through the internet? And do you think this is a normal thing?

I take it you're from the UK? Then you would know that an obsession with Japanese culture (fashion, dancing, music) is completely out of the norm for a 14 year old girl here. She could probably be considered a 'weeaboo' (is that considered insulting, by the way?).

And it is really easy to get famous through the internet. Justin Beiber most prominently (I think), but people like Shane Dawson are getting paid to make stupid videos frequently.

I think that it is easy to grasp, although easy in the sense that it takes no work if you're incredibly lucky. You don't have to be actually that funny or smart, you could just be charming (Charlieissocoollike)
Or you could just get lucky with some of your funny videos (Nigahiga, though I think he still is hilarious)
Or you could just be a total douche, yet somehow people still apparently find you funny (Shane Dawson/That =3 guy who's name I forget)

If you're not like this, you have to be original, talented and lucky, so in that sense it really may not be easy to gain Internet fame.

Internet fame isn't generally the kind that earns you respect. Even people who have become famous for little more than blogging (Perez Hilton, etc.) are basically giant twats as well.

The way i see it, its easy to get 15 minutes of fame from the internet but you need talent still to be truly famous on the internet I.e. The Nostalgia Critic, Yahtzee, The AVGN. They are what i would call them truly famous becuase they got famous back in 2008 but are still famous 2 years later.

Yes it's easy, but you can't just one day say "Hmm... I think I'm going to go be an internet celebrity today." Unless you're actual though process is "Hmm... I thinkI'm going to go majorly piss off /b/ today." It's all luck and it can't just happen to anyone, but when it happens, BAM. You don't do anything, your just famous.

It is in the west. Whenever I hear or read "weeaboo" my mind instantly conjures up images of repellent individuals. That's how prevalent the sterotype is, not to mention the fact that the origins of "weeaboo" involve the person using the term getting a paddling.

If you want to get famous on the internet, attempt to get 4chan shutdown and inform them that you have been backtracing their comments!

OT: It is as hard or easy as its ever been. There are three main methods.

#1: Advertisment. Spend enough money on enough sites and eventually people will notice you and you will be instantly "famous". If not only as a massive egocentric rich guy who needs attention.

#2: Do something amazingly stupid (for attention or not) and post it on the internet with an ALL CAPS title. Failblog or someone else with many viewers will pick it up and bam, instant hit. You may not want to be famous this way either.

#3: Have an amazing talent and go viral about it. You may be struck by the random and fabled "spotlight" and get famous on your own merits.

I think there are more methods but those were the only ones I could think of at the moment.
