OK, my Internet is driving me up the walls. It's fine for browsing or IRC or downloading or watching videos, but it is totally useless for online gaming. Speed is no problem. I get up to 300KB/s. Unfortunately, that isn't doing me any good:

I suffer from terrible lag in all online games. Even if I get a great connection, low ping, everything perfect, it is still unplayably laggy. The problem is that I get rubberbanding every few seconds. It makes L4D2 almost impossible to play. Everything will be fine one second, then everyone, NPC or otherwise will stop moving for a second or two as if I have disconnected, and then everything will snap back to the way it is in the present as if I connected again really quickly.

Take a look at this:

This is a graph of my network usage over time as I play L4D2. As you can see, it dips down every few seconds, fairly regularly. That's when the disconnection happens. This makes L4D2 and L4D unplayable, it makes Diablo II unplayable (all on PC), and according to my brother, it also makes MW2 unplayable (PS3).

Ok guys, I really need your help here. What should I do? What can I do?

Also, I have it on good authority that the nearby neighbours do not have any such problems.

Go to your router options, and open all ports for games, add it to firewall exception list and make it an open NAT type if that fails, move house! or ask someone else i dunno.....

What's your connection, is it a shared conenction between you and otehr people in your building (if you live in an appartment block) for instance.

I've got a guaranteed 4/4 connection and possibly more since me and a lot of otehr people in the building complex i live in share a 100MB conenction.

The big problem is, that to the outside world, we all haev the same IP, so for some games (DotA in my case) i get 2 seconds delay, casue the info i'm sent meets the firewall, which is out of my reach, and tehre i go... game unplayable.

But yeah, maek sure you've opened up all the right ports on your router config thingy if yo're not on a share3d connection (don't think it matetrs if it's only shared between you and your fammily if you live at your parents house)

Near as I can tell, L4D uses random ports, correct me if I'm wrong.
