A friend of mine is doing a text about them so he would like to know some of the Internet Icons around there, so I thought that the best place to ask that question would be in the internet, so tell me. Who are the Internet Icons?

It kind of depends on where you ask, really. Not many internet celebrities are all-encompassing. Around here, of course, Yahtzee, and the LRR folk come to mind, but outside of here, you'll get a bunch of "who's that"?
Gabe and Tycho might have a broader appeal than the Escapist's most-known 'net celebs.
Leeroy Jenkins is another one, from a slightly different aspect of 'net culture.
Depending on what aspect your friend is going for, any number of well-known bloggers could be used as well, such as Phil Plait.
Edit: There's also Lowtax, moot, -RoG-... (moot might qualify moreso ever since 4chan got its Jeopardy mention)
