I mean there is always indie porn ...

You joke but there will always be free porn on the internet. Some folks just like to show off.

The 50 dollar DVD's aren't worth it anywho. The overacting puts professional wrestling into a relative category of "completely believable".

I always lul when I hear the words "porn industry". I know people make a lot of money off it but I think it's cute when they think they're an industry.

OT: I any case, this is the only "industry" I wouldn't care about if it ran into the ground
I'm probably wrong but isn't the porn industry larger than a plethora of other groups that call themselves an industry?

The thought of sailing up to a porn studio on a pirate ship and pillaging it for its porn makes me giggle.

OT: Yeah, that is a bit wierd... hm...

Pirates is fantastic!

OT: It does seem to be because it's porn. Some people seem to find the need to try to make themselves feel better about things they do that they percieve as wrong by deriding others for doing the same.

It's not like "gambling" or "organised crime" or whatever you're thinking of. It's just a film industry with a load more nudity. A lot of people, hundreds of thousands, who probably failed pretty badly in school work in this industry. If it ran into the ground, you'd get no jerky action, and there'd be even more people without jobs.

Anyways, porn is far, far farrrr more pirated than video games. Almost every single free porn site steals its content from "legit" pornos and uploads them. Then millions watch it freely, and the porn industry gets nothing, yet they don't cause a shit storm about it. Imagine if the porn industry forced that draconian shit we get from the games industry, like Tages or SecuROM.

The greedy fucks in the game industry always over-state the issue of piracy, and then try to blame it for their shortcomings.
"If we didn't spend 60% of our budget on this copy protection that was cracked 3 hours after release, we could have made a better game".
EDIT: Also, imagine how easily they could nab us all for piracy? Letter from our ISP saying that we downloaded Wank Whores 12 last week...we'd pay up instantly rather than risk some publicity over it. Kind of like that Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels joke about the dildo cheque scam...

Well, i guess it goes like this.

A lot of the producers are small studios who are not fit for trying to fight piracy themselves.
The bigger studioes does it already, and gets their stuff taken off sites frequently.
The consumers gives as little thought to the piracy as they do with films and games, they just don't talk about porn so openly.
The volunteer anti pirate groups doens't care enough about porn to fight for it, they're too bussy with non-porn movies, music and games.

Also, teh free porn tubes only stream low quailty clips, but they link to the sites the clips are from, so they basicly act as comemrcials for the sites where you pay to watch HD clips and stuff, so i guess a lot of the bigger sites don't mind, or they may even be working together that way,

You know, as much as I like to discuss and research issues concerning internet piracy and copyright, it's kind of funny that I have really never even thought about porn, and I'm extremely liberal and open-minded when it comes to sex. I can't recall a single time I have ever payed to view any porn.

I'm not really sure how much piracy is harming the porn industry. I theorize that it might be less then others though, because throughout history porn has been pretty quickly to adapt and be open to new technologies as opposed to rejecting them. Yes, porn DVD sales has dropped, but look at all of the monthly pay sites that let you download and stream everything.

But honestly, I'm not concerned.

you can still watch porn for free without pirating it

the webcam has done more to hurt the porn industry then piracy has

I think one of the reasons people don't care might be that we already have as much porn as we'll ever need. It's not like it's necessary to produce new porn flicks all the time. If the porn industry was to go down, we would still have all the porn we'd ever need floating around the internet. It's not like we'd be missing any new compelling stories.

It's only really necessary to create new porn when we've invented a new piece of technology for displaying it, or a new position to show people :p
Of course we need new porn. So much of it is crap, you really have to search to find the good stuff. It would be nice if the industry focused more on quality than volume though.

Pre-emptive edit: Why people aren't open about porn? Because from a young age we get drilled into believing it's something bad, even though (once again) it's likely the one telling us that has used it at one point or another in their lives. So we get conditioned into thinking that porn is bad and as such, become quite afraid of admitting to using it. Society being silly, in a nutshell.
We can only really enjoy things we think are bad for us. If people didn't feel guilty about sex they would stop having it and then civilization would collapse. Is that what you want? Maybe you should think before you speak! :disapproving glare:

I know it's a humor site, but Cracked raises some really good contrary points to this whole no one cares about pirating porn. The porn industry certainly cares and is going the distance in preventing it. This article and this one too raise those points and thensome.

While there is a lot of stuff stolen from the porn industry, most of the stuff on those free porn tube sites is amateur stuff, and even most of the honestly pirated stuff was made for internet distribution; the kind of stuff that you need to buy a DVD for doesn't wind up on the tube sites, you have to pirate it like you would any other DVD. That said, I understand the industry is doing worse thanks to the internet than any of the other media industries, but it's not piracy that's the issue; it's kind of like what would happen if Microsoft started to go under because everybody started using Linux, Open Office, and other open source software instead of the for profit stuff made by Microsoft. Sure, it sucks for Microsoft, but there isn't anything they can legally do to stop it.

The problem of most porn being crap won't be solved by producing more porn.

because porn is expensive, and its hard to admit to urself even that u want to spend money on it
and

most guys first find porn and keep it a secret, i.e. when ur 14 and first found how to get it on limewire and torrents. Paying for it would inevitably cause parents to notice and find out and as you get older you either stop with porn or you keep on with downloads just because its cheaper

The porn industry has been massively in decline for a very long time, not just from piracy, but also from "gonzo" type porn.

The difference is, porn is relatively cheap compared to TV, Film and Games to make and there will always be repressed old people out there who don't want it to show on on their search history. That, and some people probably pic up a few titles while shopping for other adult bits and bobs

I think you're pretty much correct. Most people don't care because it's porn. It's debauchery and exploitation, and something you don't typically bring up in social etiquette.

Second, do you really want to be caught buying it? The internet is quick and largely free; with what you're doing generally left anonymous between you, Google, and the government.
With this said, I would LOVE to be on jury duty for that lawsuit case.

Prosecutor: have records to indicate that John Walker, under the alias Wankmaster68, has stolen the following intellectual properties, from my client. Backyard Babes volumes 1,2, and 10...

Meh, whatever. Personally I hate what i call professional porn. It looks really REALLY fake. Because it is obv, but anyway, i prefer to watch amateur porn. No, not pro porn actors and actresses pretending to be amateurs, but actual stuff filmed by people at home and stuff. Much more erotic. :D

I actually don't know why people are so shy about it. People watch porn, loads of people. Why aren't people so open about it in person?

Its always puzzled me.
Well, like all things sexual, it's kind of private. You'll get a few people who'll happily discuss this kind of thing but a lot of people don't really want to discuss their sexual habits with friends. :p

People regard the porn industry and the people involved with derision.

Therefore, people do not feel guilty about pirating porn in the same way that I would not feel guilty about stealing a drug dealer's wallet.

Yes, the porn industry is suffering, but seriously, I can understand why. When I had access to the channels that sent porn on nights I found myself getting incredibly bored from watching it. Porn is quite boring unless it's selling a fetish. A porn parody with a good plot still contains plenty of boring parts and perhaps some parts I like (the story's usually so bad so that's not the point I enjoy), but most of the time I find it quite dull. If I were to search for something on a site I would end up watching some short clips of things I have asked to see, and that's where the porn industry suffers. A DVD has to contain a lot of material and not everyone likes all the material in question. Why pay full price to see maybe 10 minutes of things you enjoy? The porn industry got a hard fight against piracy and can't fight like the video game industry. I have a feeling multiplayer for 10 extra bucks wont catch on...

Edit: also streaming is legal, at least it was the last time I checked, otherwise Youtube would be in trouble along with several other sites out there. People don't really feel guilty when they don't get the impressions it's piracy. Seeing "free porn" is somewhat similar to Newgrounds and their free games.
