Porn? What Porn? What's that? No, I didn't just minimize the browser, that's crazy, see? Look at this, the Escapist, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, everything's fine here.

OT: Hasn't it been dying anyway? I mean, Webcams, this "Gonzo" business, piracy is just stacking the damage. And besides, those who could speak out with lasting effect by themselves, won't, and you try to get a group of people to speak out for porn, you'll end up with a group of stereotypical thirty year olds living in their basement, and that was terrible, I should shut up now.

Are we talking about Pirating booty? ...:U

I couldn't resist.

Chances are piracy helps them because ...Look I'm asexual so my input here is speculation. So maybe there's tags on the images/videos and the 'pirate' thinks to him/herself

"Yarr there be more booty where this came from"

And sails on over to their website? I mean this is basically how I wind up with comics, I yoink it off the net to see if it's good and buy it online later. It's how I found my favorite artist "Joe MAD!" and an awesome series called Battle Chasers.

Why on earth would anyone go as far as pirate from an online porn company when you can find profanity on google for typing in the simplest things. Like apple.

Well, I guess someone first needs to buy the porn to share it online, or is there a tradition that I'm unaware of.

OT: How hard is making movies? Games? Music? Yeah, it's really hard. Porn, I would guess, not so much.

This seems appropriate for some reason...

Porn just seems to be something that people just don't tend to talk about, outta sight outta mind and all that. Anyway who, besides people in the porn industry, is going to publicly defend porn?

I think you hit the nail right on the head OP. Most people try not to talk about the porn industry because of the social stigma it has in the general culture. Piracy hurts them the same as any other business affected by it.

Course you don't need to pirate to get free porn. There's actually plenty of it floating around on the web. Its only when you want specific stuff does buying or pirating it come into play. But I guess people really want that porn.

Or so I have heard...

I despise the porn industry, and refuse to watch anything pornographic, and refuse to self-fornicate. A few of my close mates pirate music and games, but not so sure about porn. Ironically, the friend who pirates the most watches the most porn, and constantly tries to make me watch porn AND pirate shit.

Maybe it has something to do with the stigma porn seems to carry in society...
Oh, ya think?

Mainly that and the fact that it doesn't involve as much money as the normal entertainment business.

I blame religion and anyone who would like to disagree look at the stance all political officials and judges take. They are the "Family" person or the "Pure" person who is strong in their faith which just happens to condemn it. It is all about image and right now porn is not the "in" image for people to wanna fight for.

YO HO! Let us become become the most feared masters of the sea that the porn industry has ever witnessed!

(This be a joke arghh! I be in no way advocating the pirating of pornography because as we all know that be frowned upon by those scurvy dogs that sail on the HMS Moderator)

I think the fact that porn is so very cheap to make compared to other entertainment mediums like Film and Games that even if 90% of everyone who views their video has done for for free the 10% who have paid for it have far and away covered the cost of the porn.

I could probably make a porno for £5000 and it be of the exact same quality as any porn that comes from the big American studios and if i sold it for £5 a time, it's only a 1000 copies i need to sell.

I don't think not paying for porn is so bad. It's worth remembering that after all:

Besides, I don't think the "porn industry" will ever go bankrupt. Hell, I'm not convinced that is even scientifically possible! Sex sells. Always!

And if I'm wrong, then we can always peek on other people boning...

U mean like this?
Okay, this idea has grown too good no to go through with.

But on topic, I think it's the main reason you don't hear the porn industry whine about being affected by piracy is because they don't really want to get involved in any discussion involving morals. If they publicly went out and claimed to be hurt by piracy, how long would it take for the discussion to turn into being about how dirty and degrading the porn industry is?

And besides that, how much are they actually hurt by piracy? I mean, I don't know how much it gets pirated in comparison to music and actual movies, but it sure as hell is a lot cheaper to produce. Sure they loose a lot of money, but it's not an industry that needs a whole lot of money to go around and it's not like there's a lot of financial risk involved with making a porno, so maybe they figure it's just not worth it? I don't know, I'm just speculating.

I guess in a lot of ways the Porn Industry is kind of outdated or irrelevant. No longer really need all the production with all the "amateur" stuff that's around. I think piracy harms the adult industry far more than it hurts the music and movie industry, though. Good point in that people just don't seem to think porn is the same as a movie or film.

Plus piracy of porn would be easier for all the people trying to hide their porn habit, can potentially leave little to no evidence or especially a money trail in buying it. I mean, hell, people are already ashamed enough of their disturbing fetishes, better that no one could even know about them! spare you the awkward moments.

A couple of things come to mind. Please bear in mind, though I think that porn is generally unhealthy to the participants in its active state, caters to baser, chauvinistic tendencies and can be abused by consumers, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with porn.

The hot girl with the boob job in the movie you're pleasuring yourself to drives a humvee, or a bentley, or a corvette. She lives in a nice house and gets to spend lots of money. This may not be true if she's spent it all on drugs, or (far more often) gets swindled out of her money because she doesn't get a good agent or contract, or both. The latter is a far worse perp when it comes to porn stars not getting their money. I'm not sure how, but porn still makes a full shit-ton of cash each year.

I know it's hypocritical to look at stealing porn differently from stealing music, games or actual movies with artistic value, while still enjoying said stolen porn. But I just don't feel like justifying paying an exorbitant amount of money to jerk off, and it's hard to feel bad for porn people. Have you seen the houses they film these things in? They're not the cheap hotels of yesteryear. So I don't believe the directors and producers are suffering either.

And I can certainly differentiate between porn and art. Art vs. entertainment can be argued ad nauseum, but if I'm going to watch a season of Nurse Jackie or the new Christopher Nolan film, or play the new Call of Duty or listen to the new Black Keys album without paying for it, I'm going to feel bad because artists poured their hearts out into those projects. Though an argument could be made that cinematography, editing and performance have improved the visceral-ness of porn, the end result isn't a master work of storytelling - it's simply a greater state of arousal. I don't think masturbation, as fun as it is, should ever be held in as high esteem as enjoying an album for the first time or discovering a new filmmaker.

Why wouldn't it be an industry? If you don't think porn is an industry then neither is the gaming industry.

OT: Yeah OP you're on to something. I'm sure that sites like YouPorn and PornHub* piss them off to no end, i mean that's basically killing their profits. And the social stigma doesn't help either, the people who are really up in arms about Illegal Downloading are more traditional and probably spew out how porn "is depraved garbage that objectifies women and glorifies casual sex"

*[sub][sub]don't pretend you don't know what they are[/sub][/sub]
A lot of porn sites have started submitting parts of their videos to those sites (so some must be friendly with them, I guess), and give a link in the video to the full thing you have to pay for. For some reason, they always submit clips that it's long enough for the average male to fap to.

I know this through...uh...extensive research in the field.

Well, porn is just absurdly easy to pirate, you don't even have to download anything. Just go to your favorite website and watch HD of whatever fetish you want.
Also, when you need porn you don't think about pirating, unless pirates are your fetish.

Yeah, cause I want to watch two people act like nervous figgtiy morons in front of a camera in the hands of a spastic 20 year old who can't hold it steady and shut up to save his life.

You tend to get past the OMG BOOBIEZ!!!11! phase at some point in your life and care more about the fantasy.

Pre-emptive edit: Why people aren't open about porn? Because from a young age we get drilled into believing it's something bad, even though (once again) it's likely the one telling us that has used it at one point or another in their lives. So we get conditioned into thinking that porn is bad and as such, become quite afraid of admitting to using it. Society being silly, in a nutshell.
My friends are perfectly open with me about them viewing porn, and I with them. None of use are open with our families, or random people. Not that I mind talking about it in the slightest, it's just not a part of small talk.

That's the impression I get with most people. I only know a few that will not even admit to viewing porn, and I have watched porn with several of my girlfriends since I was old enough to buy the stuff (and even before that).
/Thread! Jesus, I know what you're talking about. If I were a director in this biz I would only hire guys who are mute. The shit they say is never as funny, cool or sexy (to anyone) as they think it is. It's about the girl, you moron, shut up!

They are an industry and in fact have historically had a huge impact on media. VHS vs Beta was decided by the porn industry, as was the public release of DVD and Bluray tech.

I have no idea if the industry is in decline and nor do I really care anymore. Besides I would say the most destructive factor in the porn industry is the fact that no one really needs 30 minute clips, and certainly doesn't want to pay for them. I know if I'm taking more than 5 minutes I feel like I'm wasting time since I think about porn as a quick release and actual sex as something that should take its time.
