Internet posters parody themselves

So, I really wanted my first started topic to be special, but I can't for the life of me think of anything special to go with. So we'll do this subject instead.

As anyone knows, part of the fun of internet forums is the ability to create an online persona. Or at least it is for me, but then I was always kinda weird. For a long time, I've wanted to do some parodies of the kind of tremendously stupid comments people leave online and for a while, this seemed like an excellent place to do that (in between the all the meaningful posts I've made obviously, which probably aren't as meaningful as I try to pretend they are). I thought this because, for reasons of hardcore moderators - which I actually approve of and applaud their efforts - the Escapist forums aren't that bad and therefore, my comments wouldn't be lost amidst other comments that are just like them.
I'm coming to realize a problem with this idea though. A parody is an over-the-top exaggeration of something for the purpose of humor. The problem is that no matter what I say, there's always someone who will post something a hundred times more ridiculous than I could possibly imagine and they absolutely mean it. This makes it impossible for me to do this, because people will automatically assume I'm serious in what I'm saying, which at times makes me look absolutely insane (which is true, just not in that way).
So, this leads me to wonder. Can people really be that stupid, or is this huge trend of terrible posts that break all boundaries of good taste merely a vast conspiracy of people trying to make people think they're all crazy and/or racist? You know, like a meme that got waaaaay out of hand.

The fact that people can say things in near complete anominity useually causes people become extreamly stupid, case in point, the greater internet fuckwad theory (or is it called something different?)

anyway, to quickly sum up what i just typed; Yes, people can be that stupid.

Yes people might believe you, unless you make it involve something impossible, like involving magic in some way.

Ever think that those people posting those ridiculous things are making the same parody that you're trying to do, and you just suck at it?

Nah, I tried that on youtube. It still didn't work. Unless they were playing along for the fun of it, too.

Actually, for a while I had made it a goal to say something so ridiculous that even the people on youtube had to recognize that I wasn't serious. I said things that I wouldn't repeat my closest friends. I was eventually forced to give up, because no matter how outlandish the post was, there were people who thought I was being serious. And I still found people who said worse things.
This phenomenon truly blows my mind.

Yes, actually, I have. Which is why I started this thread. I have considered this alternative, but I'm curious to know if anyone else has ever thought that.

Well then... at least we'll know who is gullible so we can cut them from the gene pool.

Fair enough. I tend to think that most people posting ridiculous things are just joking, I know some people can be that stupid, but it makes it easier for me to think of it as a joke, comedy is better than stupidity.

Whats wrong with humanity?
"Ever had one of those days when you just wish that humanity would die? Normally I'm a happy person, but normally i don't have people being so rude and making me feel like a piece of dirt.
I was your normal happy teenager ((yeah i know teenager and happy don't go)) walking down the street, two people were stood on the path, chatting away. I reached them and couldn't get past, i said excuse me, and neither moved, didn't even look at me! Grrr! I had to walk back to get around the car parked next to me, and walk on the road, then two days ago the same thing happened, different people, different place. Then yesterday some stupid women who was looking where she was going rammed her shopping trolly into me!

Now my normal happy life is ruined and I'm a angry ranting teenager."-POSTER A
"I stubbed my toe today because someone was standing.

Every human should fucking die."-POSTER B
And then on an entirely different thread...

"No one's going to call you a baby or belittle the fact that you have a shitty teacher who's screwing your math grade over. The only reason such a thing happens in the rant section is when people have to walk around a car and then think that all humanity should die(purely a hypothetical example, of course)."-POSTER C

Except, thanks to the glorious anonymity of the internet, we really don't. But then, we may be able to trick them through our own posts.
*thinks* I'm not quite clever enough for that. Time to call in a favor from my old pal, Raccoon, the Trickster. *blows magic grass-flute*

The dedicated (some would say excessive) moderation here has created, by way of weeding out those that don't go along with it, an environment with a higher than average "the internet is serious business" demographic. The intentional idiocy you point out is probably a result of people who finally snapped from frustration at the uptight nature of these forums.

We are a community of elitists.
